Default Jen's Excellent Adventure

Jen arrived safe and sound, a little tired but good. She is putting her rod together for fishing in the a.m. and wanted me to post that all is well.

We fish with Chris Sessions in the very early morning, and hope to catch a big Kenai king. We will let you know how we do.....

Tight lines, Kim

Jen,
You are going to have a great time on the fly out you are going to do on Wed. is it?
That lodge is absolutely gorgeous and is in the Lake Clark National park. The Dollie Varden and Lake trout fishing is outstanding with some of the most gorgeous scenery you will ever see. I'm jealous! God Bless and have a great time ! Remember that you don't get to Alaska everyday so take advantage of all that day light.

NEWS FLASH!!!!! Jen catches Kenai king!!!! Jen landed a very nice fish in the 20-25# range, and released it to grow for a couple more years. (I lost a dandy that got rapped around some submerged debris). Then near the very end of the morning I hooked into a hot one! He took us straight up river and tried to spool me, then tried to get to the bank and loose me! After quite a fight I landed a nice 54# buck. It will be housed in the near future above the fireplace at Clam Gulch Lodge.

Jen is off across the Inlet for the evening and some of the best fishing there is! She will post some pictures tomorrow evening.

Tight lines, Kim

Kim,
Glad to see that you are treating Jen to an excellant trip. Someday, I will hope to get up there too. Been awhile since I have seen you. Our mutual friends (Shelley & Ken) fished up there before you took over and they loved it. Us poor people have to save up. Good fishing.

Jen Update!!! Well, Jen flew over to Redoubt Lodge now going on three days ago and is still fogged in and can't get back! Gee, let me see; stuck at a remote fishing lodge nestled in the Alaskan Mountian range, fishing until your arms fall off, hot tub in the middle of the yard, full bar, comfortable beds, bear viewing that most of us will never see! God I would hate that to happen to me!

Jen really is stuck there and is stressing about getting home to the kids and Bill. I told her not to stress there is nothing anyone can do so you might as well enjoy it....

I will keep you posted on the Web Mistress. Tight lines, Kim

When the going gets tough, the tough go fishing!

Let's talk literature! I'm reading "Alaska" by James Michener, and enjoying it quite a bit! Anyone else read it? See if I recommend it after I get through the remaining 80% ...

Like a lot of Michener's historical stuff, it starts out at the beginning of time, and everything is connected along the way. Just finished reading about the Bering expeditions and the beginnings of the Russian fur trade (brutal!) - -

Alaska is awesome, you must go there. I must go back.

I have also been stranded at Cresent Lake. It was just terrible. Had to fishfor the next 24 hours for sea run Dollies and Silvers, how boring. Oh yea did I forget to mention the 5 star lodge that is there that we stayed in, unbearable. The fresh fish was ok if you like fresh silvers caught and cooked within minutes, ohhum. It is the Alaskan expierence that not many get to endure. Jens really ruffing it. I feel so sorry for her. She is a lucky dog right now!!! I wish I was in the same situation. Have fun Jen.

I just talked to Jen about an hour ago. She's in pretty low spirits. No chinooks have been caught since she got to Redoubt Lodge and high water from the rains have clobbered the sockeye fishing. The fog still hangs in there and the rental car company just goes "tick tock". She missed her flight reservations this morning which means ???$$$. She;s also missing out on the ten ocean crabs I brought home and cooked yesterday afternoon. We miss her and she misses home right now.

Postcard from home Jennie. Tillamook Lighthouse to guide you safely home and cheer you up. Hurry though, obviously Bill is "bogarting" the Crabs.

Jen is back on the Kenai Penninsula safe and sound!!!! Just got a call and all is well, she is going to try and fish most of the night on the Kenai, she says she has to catch a bigger fish than my "little 54#er"!!!

She is hoping to catch a flight out of here in the morning.

There is so much to tell. I'm doing it day by day, play by play on the Front page of ifish.
I don't have any whopper fish stories, but boy did I have an experience!

Yes, sniff... I found it very difficult to be stuck in a gorgeous five star lodge with a tackle room the size of my home... With a wall of brand new spinners that I could choose from.... wah! With a line up of any type of G Loomis rods I could possibly dream of... snuffle.
With a lake and a river and 5 boats at my ready. tear...
Actually, though, despite the beauty, there was a certain amount of some kind of interesting fear, or something, can't describe it, being stuck, and not being able to get out. I couldnt phone to make arrangements for extended care for my kids, nor change my flight.
Just the thought of not being in control. It was a learning experience...
Now that I look back at it though, I realize I should do as the people there said. They said, Jen, you can't do a thing about it, so just enjoy yourself while you are here.
AMEN!
What wonderful people at Mt. Redoubt!!!
Food was outstanding, steak and king crab legs, and chocolate cake till you die!
Fish fish fish!
I wanna go back and get really stuck.
As they say, you never really appreciate stuff till it's gone!
Sniff!
Jen
