Default Coho Season

Hello - Maybe this is a simple question or maybe it is just too complex, woven in between the fishery depts. of three states and two countries, but I thought I would ask.....
If we have a certain allottment of this great ocean coho season, why isn't it open for the last three weeks of August (apx.) instead of the first three weeks of July (apx.) what I'm getting at here is fish size. I remember some beautiful fat ocean coho coming to the boat on Labor day weekend somewhere in my memory banks. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Everything about what you said I will 2nd.
That time of year is better ocean condition, better weather, and much bigger fish.

The motion has been put forward and seconded... All in favor?

I definately agree with you both. No question...Now how do we talk fish and game into it?

Yes, the fish late summer are the sweeties! I suspect the tenative closing is due to the huge difference between the "quota", based on returns the last several years, and the new counts. Supposedly, there are over 2 million coho expected to invade the Columbia this summer, and if those numbers prove out (I bet they will), I also suspect that this closure may be lifted.

I've taken a 'boatloada' Coho from the ocean so far this year, and another two limits expected this weekend, yet have had no luck previously with them in fresh water...so I am hopeful!

How do you persuade a State of Oregon official?.... send money or a teenage hooker, and the photos thereof.

I agree, let us catch the bigger ones in the late summer...besides, the weather on the ocean is better too at that time of year
