Default Lower John Day

Took off and went up to the lower John Day for a little bass action this weekend. WOW! If you can stand the wind, and yes it always blows, get up there for some fun. I know everybodies been having fun with the salmon, but I haven't forced myself over to the coast yet. Between 6 of us we boated over 150 fish in about 4 hours. Not all big ones, but a few that were really respectable. Weather was great if you were out of the wind, but since it was blowing up the canyon it was kind of hard to avoid. We almost had the whole campground to ourselves, which made it easy to stay up all night making noise while playing cards.

N.R.Dave,

What were you using to catch the bass and where were you fishing?

Thanks,
FF

FF-
Used nothing but 3" grubs in black, bright green, pumpkin, and electric purple or blue.
Fished only one spot, only because I couldn't see moving. Anchored up right in the middle of the river just before you get to the rocks. The water goes from about 3.5' to like 7'-10'. I always anchor in the shallow water with the back of my boat about 3 or 4 away from the drop off. Don't worry about anchoring in the middle of the river, there's plenty of room for boats to get around you if they want to go up into the rocks.
Phuny-
There is two camp grounds up there. One is at the boat ramp, and one is up the river about 2 miles. You can't miss it. The one that is up river is only accessible from a boat.
