Default Graphite, E-Glass, or Solid Glass?

What's your preference for tuna trolling rods?

hrm.. I have and use a set of uglysticks and I also fish with a loomis standup rod. I prefer the loomis which is graphite, but graphite is prone to breaking due to rough handling on a tuna boat. so, I guess I'd suggest uh I dont know.. personal preference. Trolling rods can be whatever you'd like as long as it can stand up to the rigors of sea duty. 20 dollar whuppin stick or 350$ loomis.

Durability would be E-glass.... Calstar, Seeker, and many of the others use E-glass.... Maybe Crabbait will chime in with some info.....

I have three G-loomis rods and they are awesome, but expensive..... I take good care of my stuff and try to watch others when they are reeling in fish with my gear, but never fail the tuna takes that last run and the rod, hits the gunnel accasionally..... My G-loomis have not broke yet.... but everyone tells me it is just a matter of time......

The newer Seeker Project X, and Calstar Grafighter have graphite in them, but it is all down low not anywhere near the tip........I think the transition from graphite to e-glass is about the halfway point.....

Can't beat graphite for sensitivity for a live bait rod.

As I have a boat and need several set ups to hand someone who may be of low exp. I use Abu Garcia Brute sticks come in 10-25 and 15-50lb ratings e-glass will catch anything. Boated a 100 lb hali by myself on a 10-25er last year cost 20 bucks dont like it Ill buy it.

Got several of the Brutes myself.... They are cheap and the tuna that hits the lure don't know the difference in that or the most expensive Seeker or G-Loomis......

I'm kinda partial to the one in my hand with a fish on it. I do like the feel of the e-glass stuff but for the money the brutes I have are very nice. My Loomis does a good job as well. You can't beat those brutes though.

OOOPs,
I was incorrect about the Calstar grafighter.... it is actually a graphite composite mix all the way through unlike the Seeker Prokect X. Thank you Marc Mc.

I too am an e-glass fan. As for cheap rods, I run a bunch of modified Ugly Stick Tigers. I put gimbal butts on them, and a roller tip on one. They do just fine. I had a guest break one custom lamiglass rod, and the flexcoat off of another roller rod (solid glass) this year. In a word, OUCH.

I'm going to someday invest in some prettier rods for my own fishing trips, but will stick to the less expensive bruisers (brutes, tigers, penns) for my friendships' sake.

Things just break around you Doug. Thanks for taking the tima and talking with my son. He appreciated the information you passed along. Hijack over.
