Default Garibaldi Tuna Thursday

This may be a little late to help anyone but here it goes.

Went out early thursday to try to beat the upcoming blow that came in a bit early I think. Heard of some fish at 124.21 here and started trolling at 124.15 in ever growing seas. Hit a nice trip at 124.20 just like the reports had it and in about 30 min had all the fish we wanted with many doubles and triples. All fish were caught on clones and mr pinky was sadly broken off of a handline. We were on a trip with 2 handlines going and 1 sport rod when I grabbed the other handline and my buddy grabbed the rod. Just before I got in my fish I looked over at the other line and it was pulled harder than I have ever seen a handline pulled before, then it popped. I though crap, fish gone oh well, dealt with the other fish and pulled up the line the fish was lost on to find about 3 ft of the 200lb 6ft leader gone. Bummer, I thought but with the seas getting rougher by the minute I pulled all the gear after that and we headed in.

On the way in in about 200ft of water the ocean was a bit nicer than it was way out so I threw some coyote spoons out and started organizing and cleaning fish. We hit salmon right away and in about 30 min had enough to fill the smoker and headed in. Wild to hatch ratio was about 2:1 I think we could of limited if we wanted to but had 1 sicky on board who was really thankful to be back on the dock at 11:00.

Overall a decent day but when we left the jaws it was gorgeous and quickly turned snotty for us. Just another reminder to myself how fast conditions change. I was really glad we didn't try for blue water and the bite close in was damn good so we wouldn't have tried anyway. Thanks again to whoever had those numbers to poke around and look for those close in tuners.

I wonder where the fish are going to be when this big wind gets done? Maybe we'll be fishing off the jetties for them?
