Where do you want to go? Just checked the report out of Cabo and they are catching a few but most of the boats are after marlin and dodos.

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
Look at any of the long range boat schedules and specifically for trips to Guadalupe Island. The boats just got their permits for the year. Those trips will be 5-6.5 days most often (3 days fishing) and are targeting Yellowfin from 30- to 100-pounds, along with Yellowtail.
The shorter trips will certainly find them too, but going to Guadalupe is with the intention of targeting them specifically. I'm hoping to go Oct 25-30.

Yep! Give H&M Landing a call, The Red Rooster is one Boat that comes to mind, they fish mostly Guadalupe Ils.

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
Not so fast. Only 5 boats so far have permits for 'Lupe that I am aware of. Of course, everyone is saying more permits are coming. I am hopeful Polaris Supreme will have them for my 5 day in Sept, but probably not in time for my trip next week.

Any reason for the delay? I heard next year all passengers(non resident) will be required to carry Passports, this hasn't happened already has it?

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
Mexican permits, daily bracelets (another fee)....I haven't heard about passports yet.
All that stuff is the main reason I'm chomping to get to Guadalupe. Never have been, just the stories on boats from those that really seem to enjoy it. The regulations keep tightening down there. For all interested, I'd take those trips sooner rather than later. Mexico could close the door any time.

Actually nobody has been able to fish Guadalupe just yet as everybody is on the wait and see mode.......BUT the last few days the albies have popped up really nicely and hopefully they will stay on the bite for your upcoming trip next week Ringwraith. Real nice grade too,,,,if not have fun with the Yellows...............

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
well, I f'd my first try at a reply so here goes again...
GOM has good fishin and it looks fun but I don't think the San Diego long range trips can be beat for the quality of fish you can bring back as well as being an awesome "rich man's" holiday
check out the boat websites linked here http://www.fishermanslanding.com/links.html especially the top 2 boats in each of the 3 left hand columns (these run the longer trips) - the Royal Star site describes their fish-handling in detail and it truly brings back some sushi grade fish (other boats have adopted this as well), also check out Point Loma and Red Rooster Sportfishing sites
I drive from Forks, WA and burn straight back with my fish which I carry in an insulated tote I made to fit the back of my pickup - it holds ~1100# of fish and it keeps perfectly, we cut and process at home (but you can fly too and hire your fish processed and air-freighted to you)
I attached a couple pics from my last trip in 2004 (Royal Star), I don't know how to put them full-size in the post as others do

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
I'll second the Venice LA advice. Best fishing for yellowfin I've ever experienced. I've been to Mexico and Hawaii several times chasing YF and Venice flat out blem them away. Good luck.

Re: Looking for a Yellow fin tuna trip?
I may drive down next time. We'll see how badly I get ***** on the processing fees. My trrip next week is only because I have to work down there for a week so I thought I'd take advantage of the free flight. My sept trip was planned. We are flying down and back but next time I might just rent a van and fill up the back, throw some ice on top and motor home. Nice pics there BTW, eveything is helping to get my blood pumpin'.
