Default Memories does it again

2 Days and 4 conversions to the dark side

Friday night I met up with Dave (Mrkitchenpass) in Glen Eden Beach and we readied the boat for Saturdays trip out of Depoe Bay
Sat morning we meet Jim & Katie (Snaggedagain)
Jim gets seasick so he wanted his wife to go as she had never caught a TUNA but I fixed that:smile:
Dave worked his rear end off and the 3 of us ended the day with a count of 13 not bad concidering the sloppy seas

Sunday I met the crew (3Gins) My son, my son-in-law, and little Jake
Jake is an ifisher and even though he is quite young he knows how to fish
If you get a chance to take him he has my recomendation
We get out just at the crack of dawn and head NNW to where we got a few doubles the day before
FLAT SEAS for a WOT going out and in
We get a single
and another then a double trolling at 9 mph seemed to work best
Tuna biting on a Hanks special along with the trusty PINK & white working equally well after 15 we decide to go for butts Brandon S-I-L was a butt virgin as well so he got ruined twice in one day
We forgot the halibut cannonballs so we tied a few small weights together and drop down with fresh tuna bellies and herring for bait
I hooked up within 30 seconds and then Brandon gets one on
I hook up another fish but it turned out to be a cod
By then it was getting late, the kids were worn out and did not want to fish deep and have to haul up the lead or a fish (Tuna Whooped thier hinies HEHE) & I wanted a salmon so we headed in and got to witness the same whale show Sea Gypsy posted about (AWESOME)
Got to 56 degree water and deployed salmon gear WHAM fish on---DANG fish off
Three strikes then we get a good hookup on my sons rod and he says "Dad you have my permission to bring in that fish" So I did
A nice 7 pounder with no extra fins
We get one more to the boat and it was a nate

So we ended the day reluctantly with
15 TUNA
2 Halibut
1 Black cod
& 1 Salmon

I say reluctantly because it is so rare to have water that flat that I wanted to stay and fish for more salmon but it was simply getting to late
By the time we got the boat cleaned and got the fish packed in ice & drove home It was 10:30
My kid was beat and he had to be at work @0630 this morning

I can't wait for the next trip
Hopefully the seas will be flat this coming weekend like the trend shows

Good job on the fish. I'm glad the seas were a little nicer than on Saturday. Good job trying to get others on the fish saturday. Was a struggle for all. I put out my numbers sat as well but no one ever made out to us.

We ended sat with 23 tuna then headed to the banana which was new to me. Puffin told me the general area he fished in the morning. We dropped three rods with shad and tuna belly and with 2 minutes hooked up a triple (39,44,54) moved back up and within 5 minutes hooked up a double (43,48). Less than an hour and limit of 5 butts. Glad the ocean was a little better in the afternoon or it would have been a really late night. As it was I didn't pull into the driveway till 11:15.

Tried to climb into bed but my wife wasn't gonna buy that. Made me take a shower and wash twice. Think I still had my sea legs on in the shower.

Don't know how you do two consecutive days. I don't think I could handle that anymore. By the time the boat and gear was cleaned up (gear was a disaster after the sloppy seas) I was a whipped puppy last night.

On another note, middle of the morning saturday, I had to make a turn just outside the banana to avoid a collision with a boat running out. I was fishing and they were not about to change their course. Even with me making a course change, they were so close that I could read the name, and brand on the side of the boat and count all the fingers on the hand of the guy waving at me. Not sure what that was all about.

Sounds like auot-pilot-itis to me- the electronics doing the driving so the owner can take it easy and have the time to toss you a wave......

Darwin would have been proud.

Nice work once again Hank! Sounds like a great day on the water. We fished the CR and the water was not as pleasant.
