While we were out TUNA! fishing Saturday, something happened that disturbed me a bit. We were probably 25 miles out or so, trolling along and minding our own business. I was sitting in my captain's seat navigating (I usually stand, but my feet were getting tired), but paying quite a bit of attention to the back of the boat. I stood up and as I looked ahead of the boat, I caught something in the water out of my left eye. It was a wooden beam, about 10" x 10" x 20' long or so - about 20' off my port bow.

I was rudely reminded of the reality that just because you're off shore several miles doesn't mean that there won't be any obstructions.
Always keep watch and stay vigilant.
