While we were out TUNA! fishing Saturday, something happened that disturbed me a bit. We were probably 25 miles out or so, trolling along and minding our own business. I was sitting in my captain's seat navigating (I usually stand, but my feet were getting tired), but paying quite a bit of attention to the back of the boat. I stood up and as I looked ahead of the boat, I caught something in the water out of my left eye. It was a wooden beam, about 10" x 10" x 20' long or so - about 20' off my port bow. I was rudely reminded of the reality that just because you're off shore several miles doesn't mean that there won't be any obstructions.

Always keep watch and stay vigilant.

That was good you saw that Karry. That would of done some major damage. I think I could of made a dog house with that amount of wood. It was huge!

After watching this ship coming our direction for a while, we hooked a fish, and when we got it landed and the boat put back in gear, the gear deployed, I looked ahead and realized the law of gross tonnage was going to come into play and I corrected course
