Hot Sturgeon Bite = Limits
And how. Saturday 3 of us caught over 70 fish with 7-8 keepers (we lost count!) Fished several spots in the M. channel. Fresh cowlitz smelt and 2 year old vaucumn packed smelt did equally well, in fact the 2 biggest for the day were caught on the old bait by yours truly
We kept a 49 1/2, a 45 and a 44.
Yeehah

Thanks for the report. Nice to get into the gators when the bite is hot!

Re: Hot Sturgeon Bite = Limits
Equally well? Wait a second there fishytaleteller2. Your math ain't working out too well. Your 49" maybe was on the old stuff, but I swear it was the fresh Cowlitz kind. The 46" and the 44" were definately on the fresh stuff. Jason bagged the first one on it, or was it the second? I can't remember. Nevermind, maybe they did do equally well? The shrimp wasn't working out too good, neither was the pickled squid. One thing I do know. That was one of the best days I can remember. I have a good case of setter's wrist today. We should do it again soon. My smelt net just called me on the cellphone and said it was getting board just hanging up in the garage.

Re: Hot Sturgeon Bite = Limits
Sounds like ya'll got into em Great job. I have found that vaccum packed smelt that is 2 and 3 years old, works as well for me as fresh. Those vacuum packers are definately nice. Congrats on the fish

Re: Hot Sturgeon Bite = Limits
Yah...Bottomfeeder was up front bleeding fish when his pole went off. He didn't notice. Jason reeled the shaker almost to the boat and put the pole back in the pole holder. When Brian came back and saw his pole buried, he grabbed it and did a mild (for him) hook set and the fish popped out of the water!
My son and I almost died laughing
I thought I caught both my 49 and 46 on old smelt? Whatever, the fishing was fast and furious...seemed to come in waves with doubles and a few triples. I believe we were targeting upstream moving fishies.
Bottomfeeder....lets go out again saturday. Might consider taking both boats.....

Fishuntr2,
Yesterday I merely mentioned going out Saturday to the spousal-unit. I was immediately shot a look of death. Not sure it's going to work dude. I'm trying to move some things around schedule-wise, plead insanity, beg forgiveness, do dishes, buy flowers. We'll see.
HiYa' PlugCut,
Doing good. Don't kid yourself, teaching sturgeon how to fly can be fun. I keep meaning to drop you a line or give you a call but you know how it is. Hey, Springers are just around the corner. Yack at you later.
