Default Steelhead fishin\'

Anyone chasing summers on the coast or the Santiams? Trying to get a boat down river looks like it might be a challenge. I wanna go but looks like a raft or pontoon show. The river gage on the Nestucca looks like it went to crap again. The South Santiam looks like 850 or so cfs, can that be done?

I had been floating the North from fishermans to mehamma at 3.0 which it's still at. I like the low flows as it makes the shutes fun.

The South is still very driftable. You will scrape bottom in a couple of spots, but you should be okay. If you have a wooden boat, I would think twice about doing this river. I was there during the 4th of July, and two different wooden boats suffered puncture holes in their bottoms. If you are not familiar with the water, then don't bring your wooden boat out there. If you have aluminum or glass, no problems.

Thanks. Hey Neutron, what's that drift like? How about shuttles? Thanks again for any info.

BW, Bob Lusk is the guy to call and can give
updated reports as well. Do a search on "shuttles" and you'll find his #, it's been
mentioned before. I don't have his card with
me. The water is challenging enough, one
pretty good mine field. If you can read water and are decent on the sticks, you won't
have any problems. That's a pretty long float, you can cut it in half by launching at
N.Santiam park. Call Bob though, he is a good source of info.........Let us know how you do.....
