Default I am a Mountain Man

I am a mountain man. I live in the city, but I wear boots everyday. But, the cold crisp air is what I desire. Breathing clouds in the morning. I hope it may lead to snow. I do not fear slopes, and I do not fear thickets. Sometimes my toes are numb, and I may be soiled. But I enjoy it. It is because life is too easy. I need a challenge. In the mountains it seems I am less of a being. The odds are close to even. In the back of my mind I have to think survival. In the city I may be strong, but in the wild I know I am weak. I am no match for mother nature. Out of control she is; and cannot be tamed. That one week a year. The one week I can afford. The week I am me. The week I am weak. Born a century too late. My time is now weeks away. And I wait patiently. I wait for the week. The week I am a mountian man. Are you a mountain man?

I reckon I am kind of a mountain man,

I'm for sure weak all week every week.

'Lot of truth there; for a lot of us, I think. For me, especially this part:

Yes I am! The mountains are where I think most men feel the most like a man. No better way to get away from it all and recharge the batteries!

No, I'm not a mountain man.

I've been to brain washed with commercials, advertising, chasing money, buying plastic wrapped meat, having strangers cook food for me, caught up in the electronic age, relying on modern conviences, driving smelly fossil burning mechanized hunks of metal, domesticated house chores, living in the city, having neighbors all around, taking a bath every day.......plus there are many other reasons why I'm not a mountain man.

To be one with the Mountain, the Wilderness, the land beneath your feet, a person requires time.....much longer then a week. Time measured in seasons, perhaps years.

Still your quest is a noble one, a dream for simpler days.....living off hard work and sweat to survive, where decisions can spell the difference between life and death; food, shelter, water are no longer taken for granted, instead each one must be earned through tired muscles, determination, intelligence and grit.

So no, I'm not a Mountain Man, but I do dream for a simpler life, a life without conflict, a life without evil, a life filled with hope for family and peace and a life were clean water quenches my thirst and clean air fills my lungs......... Oh yes, the Mountains, the lure of the mountains helps to fulfill all of this and more....to be alive, to feel alive, we must visit the mountains.

May you all find your paradise this fall in the Mountains, have a safe and prosperous season!

Gregg
