Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Skipper...Does ****** know that you posted this picture with very good detail on the location you fished? Or is he about to keel haul you for it?
Just wondering....See you there on Saturday!
J.K.
Congrats on your first one!
Bill

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Actually he posed me in front of the rock, and requested I use this one. The first picture hid it well. I would never do such a thing without having permission. He has several pics of the same spot in the picture upload area. Notice the lure is not showing since it was one of his custom jobs that did the trick sooooo well. That I won't disclose.
Thanks for the concern.

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
I Love it! Rock, what Rock? It's ok, we will just do this on this 18th! (And a few others, no doubt.)
It is a big river. If you are getting sick of hearing this though, TUFF! Don't anchor too close behind big fish hog lines and give the person some room on either side of their boat, especially if they were sitting there to begin with. Losing fish in anchor ropes in only part of the problem.
The bigger issue is dodging them with props and boats going backwards off the anchor, in swift current and big fish runs. If they become entangled on the prop/lower unit and the boats turns the wrong way very fast, it can potentially sink and kill everyone or cause major damage and end someones fishing season fast.
Call me an AH, if you want, but pull the bumpers out next to me? You are too close. (Right FishinMission?)
ALWAYS stop the boat from going backwards, WAY above the line with your anchor.
Don't panic and don't forget you have a MOTOR to slowly go forward and STRAIGHT if the anchor is not holding. I have seen this so many times, it's not funny anymore.
THEN back down into the line on the rope, NOT under power. Just some safety and courtesy needed for this area.
Not water for beginners...no joke. This area requires a minumum of 300 feet of anchor rope AND a large Columbia River Pick/Release Anchor.
Those of you that know, back me up here.
This area will be a circus again sooner than I want to think about. Other than that, fish beside me anytime.
Nice pearl belly Paul! My two baby Sammie's went back in to mate.

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Man thats a nice fish, congrats. On the achoring post,I agree, I'm relatively new to fishing big rivers so I look for a likely place and anchor away from other people until I feel comfortable. I haven't run into anyone or crossed anchor lines and I don't wanna start now. But I guess some people see boats anchored catching fish and it's too tempting...

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Bill,
I asked him to post the one HIDING the rock and SEND me the one SHOWING the rock. LOL. Just kidding. Pretty awesome shot for a frame eh? Does this mean I have to fight you both and two more boats now for "my" spot?
Do I have to leave on Tuesdays to fish Saturdays? Three in one boat works too ya know.
Rick

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
******,
Great shot for a frame! I love the gorge for fishing and whatever I can do out there!
You must have felt proud to introduce a new guy to a Steelhead. Nice going!
Let me know how he looks when he comes up from the Haul!
Make sure you coach him a little on telling good stories....AKA... lies. Anyone with a fishing License is licensed to Lie! Also about pictures! HA!
Going way down the river Saturday...or oh lets see....to the rock??????....not sure yet.
Sounds like to much anchor rope and too many AH's
J.K.
Good luck out there!
Bill

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Paul, Worms man Worms! LOL.
Ok. Very small ruby red beads or lime green beads. #3 or #4 blades. #1 Treble. I use a clevis which allows me to change to any size and color when I want. Backbounce in the current, put it in the rod holder when you find a good place that's really turning your spinner blade.
"If in doubt, put the Bluetip Rainbow out." "Copper and Red makes the Salmonoid dead." I spinner fish. There are many folks on here who hammer em' with various plugs, like the kwik or flat fish variety.
Use what you have confidence in. I've shared a couple that have been tried and true. We fun around, but I like to see EVERYONE catch fish.

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
And don't forget to try the ruby red bead with rocket red corky body combo. If you can find one, a pink hackle bead above the hook will catch more fish according to some, hand tied feathers should work too. Small plastic clevis will allow changing of blades through the day like ****** says. At times, a small rocket red or pink blade, other times gold or brass.

Re: My first Steelie, Thanks ******
Welcome home Keith.
Son on an Okie and I fished together for years, so he is telling you the truth too.
Someone I know (me) originally showed him some of it, then he improved and builds his own. He catches as many fish as anyone else I know. He just gave you more of our tried and true combinations.
So are we going to see exotic fishing pictures from Puerto Rico, Bigfoot?
