Default Ocean Temperature

Sunday while out of Garibaldi fishing with Waterdog, we spotted a definate line in the water running east/west. The line was just about in line with twin rocks. The North side of the line was a deeper darker blue color and the South side was more algae green color. The depth finder said the temperature on the algae green side was 52.5 degrees. The darker blue color side was 50.5 degrees.

Can one of the salty dogs on this page inform this salt pup which side would we have been most likely to find Coho in? Do they like the warmer or the colder water? Or does it matter?

The temperature line we saw both days this weekend ran N-S (fished just S of twin rocks). Coho were steady so we didn't notice a preference, but we did catch a Spanish Mack. in 51F + water. Not sure if that means anything...

The 52.5 keeps the fish more active. Salmon like water from 52 to 57, maybe up to 58. I've caught salmon in 64 degree water to so guess it depends. On the ocean, I'll stick with the 52 to 56 and say optimum is 53 - 55. You can catch them colder and warmer, just that's the range I look for and highly recommended from people who know more then I.

Hey, I just go fishing and catch fish. That's the eating kind, no skudds in my boat.

When you heading out next BOE? And, how does it feel to have something to eat in the house other then crabs?

Nice going bait,

Gregg
