Default Cabelas Kudos

Sometimes it seems there tend to be lots of negative comments about customer service, so thought I'd share a positive one. Disclaimer: I have no financial or other stake in Cabelas, other than all of the money I've spent there over the years.

I've used Cabelas for over a decade, but have never had to return anything, until now. I ordered a pair of Leupold Wind River 10x42 binoculars from Cabelas in late June. They arrived the day before I had to go out of the country for work for a month, so I basically opened the box, looked out the windows with them and put them away.

This week I had them out for the first "real use", scouting for deer and I noticed a defect in the eyepiece lens that sort of looks like a permanent water spot about the size of a pencil, however it did not seem to effect the performance.

So I called up Cabelas, explained the problem, and asked if I should return the binoculars to Cabelas or Leuopold. They asked if I had kept the UPS free return shipping label to return it to them, uhh, no, , I've never had a problem before so I threw it away. The nice lady says, "that's ok, we'll send you a new return label so you can return them to us." Simply put the label on a box and drop off at any place that takes UPS shipments.

I next say that with hunting season coming up, I really don't want to be without the binoculars for several weeks, since my wife lost my other ones (why I have new binoculars in the first place). I'd thought about using the binoculars through hunting season and then returning them, since they seeemed to work ok. She says, "well, we can ship a replacement to you now, charging your card, but it will be refunded when Cabela's receives my return."

Then she checked on availability and said, "I'm sorry, we're out of those binoculars in black like yours, they're on back order and that will take several weeks". But then she says, "we have the camoflauge ones, they're $20 more, but you can have them for the same price as the plain black binoculars since we're back ordered on the black ones, if that's ok?" Although I'm happy with black binos, what the heck, I'll take the camo ones.

Cabelas sometimes costs a little more, but in the back of my mind it's always been that they have good customer service and quality products. Overall, it was a great experience. For every problem, she had a a solution.

Thats awesome. I work in a major department store and customer service is a huge part of what i do. I like to hear about other good companies. I don't have much expeirence with cabelas, but it sounds like your story is a common one. They understand that the only reason they have jobs is becasue of CUSTOMERS like us, so they treat us well! It's no surprise to me that she gave you the camo ones for the price of the black, that $20 they lose on that is a just a drop in thier very large bucket.
