Incredible! It amazes me that the two states would even entertain this idea.

If wild lower Columbia winter steelhead go extinct then they won't be "interfering" with the all important commercial gillnet fishery anymore. This shows where both state's priorities really are.

Who needs 20lb steelhead anyway?

I don't have the time to look up much less read any reports presently, but if you would be so kind to email me on anything that concerns my belief regarding hatchery/wild report's and/or gill-nett reports, I would be very much ablighed!

I know my spelling, etc. is terrible, so don't jump me dude.

The same kind of "psudo-biology" goes on in Alaska and every other type and kind of commercial fishery in the world for that matter.

If u get so wrapped up in the anti-restriction of one or more fishies we loose sight of the real goal, conserving the wild runs we have left. Unfortunately, science and politics mix like water and oil and biologists are left with tough decitions for the best good of all, not just one group.

Here is an exaple of where radical preservation groups like "Oregon trout" and "Trout Unlimited" belive it or not can help the "every day fisherman" and help balance out one radical side verses the other radical side on a controversial issue like this.

King is right, statistically this makes sence and is a compromise....However, remember compromises always have "winners" and "loosers" to someone, no one wants to give, so fisheries proffesionals have to try to minimize impacts. Too bad the everyone losses in this deal, the commercial fisherman arn't gettin rich, agancies are getting spread more thin, and us poor sport fisherman spend more money to catch fewer fish.

Also, what are the numbers that these statistics based on?

Just how well do we know what constitutes "healthy" winter steelhead runs.

No one is going to win the fight between sport and commercial fisheries......

I would love to see a lower impact on these fish, really it is too bad that the mortality from sport and commercial fisherman couldn't be less than one percent for both.... Not goin to happen......

In the long run... Wild stock restoration will take everyone making sacrifices from all walks of life, not just fisherman... Too fight over what little is left seems sad to me... Wish we could just place a huge "band aide" on the whole CR watershed, unfortunately so do alot of people, thus no real solutions to returning large numbers of self sustaining populations of salmonids will be back in the CR untill drastic measure with realistic goals to restore "self sustainability" to these stocks.

I'm no environmental wacko. Never the less....

I was present whe WDFW Commissioners questioned Lefleur and Tweit. They admitted "a few" stocks had shown no improvement since their listing.

Sorry... this is a bad plan PERIOD and I don't care what your politics are. If gillnets can't harvest without doing irreparable harm, then too bad. I have no sympathy what so ever after hearing the crude and rude remarks from a few of those commercials at that meeting. It is not the fault of sportfisher's that their nets are walls of death and can't differentiate.

My technique can.... neaner neaner neaner!

Yep, there is no place for nets in this 21rst century.

I haven't read the report as of yet but will later.

AuntyM, I was hoping to see you at the Puyallup show.
