Forks Trifecta
In the last several days, we've been successful on halibut and tuna. Today it was time to focus on the salmon.
First of all, here are a few more whale photos from yesterday. These are not zoomed, only cropped:
Caught 25-30 coho today, most of them wild. Had a nice fish at the boat, when all of a sudden this guy showed up. Breeched at the boat, stole the fish, and I was worried he was going to spool me. Luckily, the fish came off, so I didn't lose gear. Also, it was a native, so it didn't hurt so bad:
We ended the day with this chinook. First time in memory that "One last cast" has paid off. He went 30#:
This completes the trifecta for us, halibut, tuna and salmon. Salmon tomorrow, tuna Friday. What a great trip it's been.

Damn dog- it'll be a great day when they're taken off the 'endangered' species list.....
Think he needs a bit of lead poisoning

Absolutely amazing pics. I always try to get whale pics, but with the digital camera delay and a rocking boat, they never look as good as yours. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Forks Trifecta
Great Pics! Great Post!
I thought it was not possible to actually catch a fish on a "last cast". When you catch a fish, you can't quit without casting again to see if there is another fish there. I think it violates the laws of the universe for a fisherman to not cast again after catching a fish.

Re: Forks Trifecta
Thanks for the kind comments, guys. Wavechaser, in order to get photos like these you'll need a D-SLR. You might want to take a look at the Avery Outdoors Outdoor Photography forum. Lots of amazing work on that site, as well as good advice for people new to the hobby.
It's been a great trip. We limited on nice coho today in an hour and a half. Just us and about ten trollers out on the canyon. Put another 20# of fillets in the freezer. That makes more than 50# of salmon, more than 100# of tuna, and 30# of halibut. My most successful ocean shopping trip yet. Yes Al, it's La Push. Uncrowded, very laid back.
Tuna again tomorrow, with maybe a stop for salmon on the way in. Salmon on Saturday, than the long drive back on Sunday.
