Default Clams and rough surf

went clamming friday @ gearhart but didn't see a show during 2+ hrs. surf looked pretty rough when we got there at 5pm (2hrs b4 low). Rough surf = clams down deep, right? Did any else do anything or is my guess on failure correct? Just need some confirmation for redemption  .
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Jayman,

Clamming would have been tough with the surf conditions no matter how good you are. There are clams there, but with surf/swell much over 10 feet it can be real tough. Check the link below, it is where I look to see if conditions are worth hitting the beach. Tuesday and Wednesday produced easy limits.

Here's another one that you can chose the spot you want to check a little more.buoyweather

Those buoys are giving you swell size, not wave size. If you want to know how big the wave face will be when it breaks, the formula is, sig wave height times sig wave period devided by 16 times two. That should give a pretty close idea of what the wave faces should be.

Kook,

That is a good one. I will have to make that a permanent part of my favorites.

Thanks,
