Re: Looking for lab.
Take your wife to "just look" at some lab pups. Use some excuse like "I need to check out some bloodlines". They will melt her heart and bam!....problem solved. Works every time.

Re: Looking for lab.
I think if you give more specifics on what you are looking for, you would get more responses. If you are looking for a started dog, what age category? What do you want this dog to be able to do. Retrieve multiple marks? Do land and water blinds? Keeping in mine that the more you expect the dog to do, the higher price you should expect to pay. Training a dog takes a lot of time so if you decide on a puppy be sure you are up to the task to keep up the training. Even a master hunter will need to be trained regularly to perform up to speed. Lots of puppies out there. Do your homework. Look deeper than just the cute little faces starring back at you saying, "take me home"..HT

Re: Looking for lab.
Well what i am looking for is a Lab i dont care much what color but i would like a male but would consider a female. I dont really need a started dog just a little bit older dog 6mo to a 1 year. I want to be able to do most of the training my self. So if any one has or nows of a dog like this please let me now. Thank you.

Re: Looking for lab.
I just did a similar search. There are lots of breeders that will sell you a dog like you describe. If you are just looking for any old lab, there are probably lots of rescue dogs you could look at. Labs are so frequently more than many bargained for at this age.
My guess is that if you buy a 6mo dog with a good pedigree from a breeder you will be looking at $1K, maybe $1.5K. It would be pretty unusual for a reputable to have a 1 year old dog and not be training it. I would think a 1 year old through FF would run you $1.5K to $2.5K, depending on what it could do and it's pedigree.
There are lots of ads for started dogs on the retrievertraining dot net forums for started dogs. I know the breeder I bought my dog from has some started dogs right now at various levels, and I am sure other breeders in the area do too. Make some phone calls. The only thing most breeders and trainers like to do more than work with dogs is talk to prospective clients.

Re: Looking for lab.
Give me a yell I might have one that will work for you. He is a two year old we are going to wash out of our breeding program. He is AKC pointed and I currently have him slated to run in the WC at the waterfowl festival. Big headed yellow boy. Great dispostion and really nice all around dog. I hunted him some last year and he has been to one hunt test which he didn't pass because he found the penned birds and I could get hiom away from them. anyway if you want more info Ill send you a phone number,
