December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
Seems like there are a gazillion things which converge on the date December 21, 2012 at 11:11 AM. The end of the fourth stage of man, the Sun, Moon, Earth in alignment, end of the Mayan calendar ... people have suggested things such as huge solar flares, world war, the magnetic poles of the earth flipping, and on and on. Seems like a wonderful fantasy ... will it be like the Microsoft Millennium bug, or is there something really going on?

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
The date is even backwards (december 21......12) I think winter steelhead fishing may be off the shnizzel and there may be an over abundance of some winter chinook too. I believe it is the day after my papas birthday as well. Might just be one heck of a Birthday bash.

Millennuim bug was my first thought. What will happen will be caused by the hype, and conjecture brought up by folks. Look for scams, doomsday cult news(ie Heavens Gate), unique services for that day(ie chartered plane flights, hotel deals), upturn in estate planning, ....the list goes on and on.
We will hear more and more about this until December 22, 2012 when the news will drop the topic.

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
I trust the Mayan calendar much more than any news reporter, computer program (or programmer), or any of the rest of today's society. But, I somehow doubt they could see the future. Besides, our calendar repeats every so many years, what says theirs couldn't behave similarly???

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
I think the Mayans just ran out of room on the rock and figured they could make a new calendar when the time came. I suspect Christmas will most likely come in 2012 and we'll have to invent some new source of anxiety. [political commentary suppressed!!]

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
You guys haven't heard? On that day, the very earth will shake to its core. Mountains will crumble, huge tidal surges will swamp most of the worlds perimeters as the oceans rise by 50' or more due to massive plate shifts. As Jupiters aligns with Saturn and Mars, the gravitational pulls will rip the earth from its current path around the Sun, and massive temperature changes will cause most of the world to freeze. All those who did not heed the warnings of the guy on the corner with the cardboard sign saying "The world is coming to an end", will not have a pleasant day. Although I often wonder.....where do all the guys with the cardboard sign go when the world does come to an end?

Actually, the next cycle is supposed to be fire. The last cycle the earth went through was water.

I've seen the shows that spoke about this, even wrote the date in my bible, so I can remember it years from now.
Concerning the Mayan calendar, I don't place much faith in it.
I mean, they just disappears. Was there a date for that on there calendar.
To me the Mayan calendar is like the lucky rabbits foot.
The rabbit had 4 feet and it didn't do him any good.
I plan of being somewhere enjoying life and not being draw into the hype.
I can predict it will be the end of the world for some ducks.

$20,000,000 to $25,000,000 but is expected to increase sharply as interest spikes. Sources say some will pay as much as $100,000,000 to travel.
Remember this is a 2 way ticket...no one stays on the station, at least until they complete the Shilo-in Mars and attached shopping mall complete with Alien food court. I hear the "Made on Planet Earth" store is going to be hot!

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
It makes sense why they devised this ending, based on all the cycles of our universe. I watched a 2 hour presination online, and it made alot of sense as to why they made this calendar. The mayans just did not pull that date out of thier butts. They even pinpointed the starting date of our universe at exactly 16.4 billion years, and modern science is starting to agree with that date.
PM me if you would like a link...its a long discussion, but it explains ALOT about our universe in a perspective you would never of dreamed of. Instresting stuff!

By the spring of 2012 all my Y2K food supply should be gone. Now with the Dec 21, 2012 event rapidly approaching, I had better stock up on a fresh supply of that 150 year shelf life type of 2012 special edition of spam.

I'll probably just hit the snooze alarm that day Pete. Just avoid the whole darn thing. It's the day after my birthday so something good is bound to happen. Think I will go salmon/steelhead fishing with David Johnson. Sounds like a good day to be on the river maybe. Sign me up David
Guess it all really depends on the 2008 election. Chad, where are you chad? Probably hanging around somewhere.

I've heard this on Coast to Coast AM for sometime now. Sometimes it's entertaining to listen to the easily swayed and confused call in to make fools of themselves. But just to be on the safe side I be wearing my tinfoil hat more and more as the date approaches!!!
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after me.

Re: December 21, 2012 ... what do you think?
Did some more "research" and found that Dec 21 2012 is the third Friday of the month(December). Known as a triple witching day it is important for those dealing with stock options, future contracts and such it could be a volitile day on the markets. Consider also that it being Friday, the market closed Saturday and Sunday, Monday is the 24th Tuesday is Christmas. There are a whole lot things that fund managers, private investors, etc are going to want to get done before the holidays. Friday is going to be Very Busy for Wall Street.
It is the first day of Winter.
I think a lot of folks will be taking the day off to have a five day Christmas vacation.
Found a website(there are plenty just google) that gave a lot info for 2012(74 close asteroid encounters) and Dec 21 will be only 9 days after a very close Asteroid encounter, and supposed prophecies are supposed to come true( all on Wed the 12). But this cheery warning is real
nice: there is a report of the recent announcement by the Mayan elder, Don Alejandro Cirilo Pérez Oxlaj, which includes the following:
"...on Dec. 20, 2012, Mother Earth will pass inside the center of a magnetic axis and that it may be darkened with a great cloud for 60 to 70 hours and that because of environmental degradation, she may not be strong enough to survive the effects. "It will enter another age, but when it does, there will be great and serious events. Earthquakes, maremotos (tsunamis), floods, volcanic eruptions and great illness on the planet Earth. Few survivors will be left."
I have a question for Don... How does the earth pass thru the center of a magnetic axis? Think about it.
Great so after a month of negative prophecies and asteroids don't you think people willl be ready to celebrate the 2013 New year? Oh yeah, two thousand thirteen( if its not one thing it s another!) sheesh!

It's TRUE......but you guys are way off base on assuming your predictions of fire and magnetics as being the cause of the worlds end.....you are.
The real death knell to this world will be all the lost socks from the dryers reappearing at that exact moment of time, and burying mankind in a heap of his own doings.......

I won't be worried until I see Nessie coming after me in mismatched socks.

I use to think something of the mayan's and that prediction..
but if they could predict that.. why couldn't they forsee their end ? Seems if they were so smart they would still be here to tell us about their predictions.:lurk:
