Default Lowrance X-15MT

I have had my X-15 for a month now and have been having alot of problems with the sonar portion not working. I would have to boot up a number of times to get it to work. I talked with lowrance tech support and they said this is a known problem and they have just released a new software update to fix the problem. If you didn't purchase the GPS/Chart mapping option you will have to to do the upgrade. Luckily I bought the whole package. I was wondering if any of the ifish members have had this problem and if the software upgrade fixed the problem. I will test the new version this weekend and post what I find. Thunderstruck, 'Puffin' also bought that unit. On his the GPS part went away. To be fair to Lowrance they were johnny on the spot about a replacement unit. Jon tells me the new box works great. A comment he caught from the service folks at Lowrance is that there was a bad batch of x-15's and that they are now all gone. If you have one of these very expensive toys and it gives you any trouble I advise you to hound Lowrance and get a new one. After all if you fish and boat like I do your life may depend on it.

The warranty can't be beat!

Ordered mine next day air from cabela's two days ago so I could install it yesterday and use it today. Guess what? No power cable or bracket knobs! Cabelas is covering the next day air charge and we had backup gps and finder, but what a let down... Joe

We have had one since March. It works fine in deep water, The GPS works fine, the mapping software is a little buggy and will somtimes lock up my computer.
We cannot get the depth reading to work in shallow water. If you are in deep water and come in to say 10 feet it locks up and flashs until you are in 20 feet of water for what seems like minutes. If you are in a shallow river it starts flashing at 4.4 feet. It rarely will start working again. It just keeps flashing or starts looking for the bottom and won't quit till it maxs out at 5000 feet.(Remember we are in 8 feet of water). I've called customer support 5 or 6 times. At first they blamed the installation. When they came out with a software fix the acted incredulous that we would expect it to work with the old software. Well I've been through that "Well you have old software story" 4 times and although it is much better, we don't even turn it on unless we are out on the Columbia.
I would hold off buying one until they can get the bugs worked out. If you must get one, buy mine!

Well I just got back from 4 days at Brownlee Res. and the catfishing was pretty good. They averaged 4 to 6 pounds and heard of a couple over 30 caught. Anyway the new software upgrade helped with my problem but I still have the problems in shallow water.(less than 2 feet) It doesn't lock up like fountun described but it doesn't work like it should. I could get it to lock up if I had my pump in neutral causing a lot of air bubbles to be around the transducer. This only happened once and cycling power fixed the problem. I imagine that this more of a hardware issue than software. I will try the ocean this weekend and if I have more problems its going back to Cabela's.
