Blubeast, fished at Newport on Sunday. Many of the sport boats were fishing about 3 miles out northeast of the jaws. We fished about these boats for 45 minutes and never saw a fish caught. Our next stop was 5 3/4 miles straight out from the jaws and fishing was much better there. The magic zone for us was 15 to 18 pulls on a large deep six diver. Behind the diver we had a large dodger and green and white hoochie and small piece of herring. There are a lot of native coho out there as three of us had to catch 11 salmon to get a limit of 6 fish.

Default Newport Salmon?

Planning my first fishing trip on the ocean out of Newport this weekend. If anyone has been out recently, I'd like your reports on how it was, how far you had to go, and how deep were the fish?[*]null

Blubeast, been wondering for some time if you were just a "lurker" now it is confirmed!! We are trying to get our nerve to tackle the Columbia tomorrow, but based on the forecasts, looks like it will be sturgeon in the estuary. Will let you know how it goes.
