Default Mayfield Lake

My wife and I are going to be camping at Mayfield lake (Ike Kinswa State Park) for a few days next week. I will have my float tube and waders along. Anyone know if the fishing is good now? What to use? I know there are tiger muskie in it, but I only have a couple of days so Trout? other fish?
What works? Flies? bait? Who would know in the area? All help gratefully accepted.

The park really isn't the place to fish (swimmers, crowds, etc.), but there is a good place just up the road, by the hatchery where you could maybe catch some trout. Don't know what the road's called? It's mostly a plunking show up there, but you could probably go out in your tube and fish bait/troll spinners, etc. up there.

Marko...Polo

I'm assuming you will be taking I-5 North and getting off on HWY 12 E to get there (Exit #68). If so, a great place to stop at and ask all the questions you can about Mayfield Lake would be "Fish Country". It'll be on your right, down the road about 4 miles +/- after you get off the interstate.

Another place you could ask would be at "The Barrier Dam Campground & Tackle Shop". To get there, turn right where you see the brown sign with white lettering that says "Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery --->" You'll go down the hill and it will be on your left. If you have a camper, both places are easy to get in and out of.

Wish I had more info, but these people deal with Cowlitz River fishermen and the Mayfield Lake fishermen. It would be really worth the effort to stop at one of these places as the people are great.
