Default Outboard service suggestions.

I have called around and got quotes from 180.00 to 300.00 dollars for a tune up.

I can change my own plugs and the lower unit oil.

Where can I get a tuneup to adjust the carberator, and mabey check the charging sytem.

Can't I just get a estimate from them testing the motor or do I buy a book and do it myself.

like car mechanics, there does not seem to be a honest trustworthy boat mechanic out there.

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Skipper, Don't mess with the carbs unless you really want to get into expense. Outboard mechanics recommend the new liquid tune up you spray into the carbs while the engine is running and it cleans all the deposits out of the motor. Change your plugs regularly and watch the water pump. I did this with a new 150 Yamaha for three years of heavy running, took it to the dealer and had a total tuneup. They did very little to it and the cost was about $180. This included new thermostats.

Call Tom's outboard repair on Mclaughin accross from the Bomber. Tell him what you have done and what will he charge for the rest. I changed oil and plugs and the easy stuff and he focused on the rest. Motor runs great again and I think I got a bargain. Tom is respected and trusted by many on this board.

Call Larsens Marina at the top of the Channel. Dwayne is onw of the best Merc mechanics around, but you may need to leave the boat for a few days. He is honest and very resonable........

My vote would be Tom's. He did a good job on my old Merc., at a fair price.
