Default Any word on La Push Tuna

Hi. I'm new to the site, but not the area. Great site by the way, had something like this in Chicago. I'm in the military and just moved back to Puget Sound.
Was wondering if anybody is fishing for tuna out of La Push? Thinking of going Sat for some hali and tuna (weather permitting).

Thanks in advance,
Looking forward to meeting and talking to the Salty Dog Crowd.

Dave

Welcome to the site, Dave. It is customary to tell an embarrassing/interesting story about yourself to help get acquainted.

Scotth posted on LP recently:

http://www.ifish.net/board/showthread.php?t=160638

The charters have caught a few. I'll be running out of there also. We arrive Friday afternoon, and will chase tuna as conditions allow. You're welcome to wing with us. Shoot me a PM.

Not sure about halibut. I heard they were going to get another day to fish, but not sure if Saturday is that day. I am considering taking the ferry to Victoria to pick up a license, in order to fish Area 121. Not sure where to go in Victoria to buy one, though.

Salmon has been slow due to the warm water. The first three weeks, only 70 chinook were counted, including only 2 for week 3. Last weeks (week 4) numbers should be posted later today.

Here are the latest SST and Chloro shots:

There is warm water to the beach, and the chloro break is at 47.7/125.2, so about 25NM from the skunk bouy. Don't know where to put the gear in, as lots of fish have been caught in green water.

I don't see any salmon water, and word is the ******* are also having a hard time, even fishing deep.

Give Jim of "Top Notch Charters, a call. He should know what is going on. Tell him hello for me. Think he was going to try and have some live bait there. Noyt sure how that has worked out.

hi Dave - weather sucks this week, stiff NW, small craft advisories

last Saturday some friends got em good from 18 to ~35 miles SW - the inside fish were nice, 18-22#, in very green water - the outside fish were smaller in bluish water

looks like the SSTs are holding up even with this NW so when it lays down it should be time to go find em again

Bring your haliut gear John and be ready. I'm going to be up there with a couple of buddies aboard the Salmonator. Our plan is halibut-lings, then tuna, weather permitting. We'll be getting in late Friday most likely but give me a call. Looks like I will only get to fish Saturday then possibly head to Westport or go home. 35oz. Norwegian jigs or 3lbs of lead to get to the Halis.Should be great fishing!
I'm glad that we'll get to see you!

Hi Beee. Plan on stopping by the Olympic Suites Friday evening for a cold one. It'll be good to see you.

Will throw the hali gear in. I'd like to have you go over it with me. I have the spreader bars, 16/0 circles, and weights (1# and 2#). Guess I'll need some herring, unless somebody has shad (hint). I have a couple of those nasty-smelling big Berkeley Gulp grubs, but somebody is going to have to put them on the hook for me.

Scott, any salmon outside the harbor mouth this week?

Jon,
White Berkley Power grubs 8in. with 2+lbs of lead. Have you seen the Norwegian jig? Bring your hard hats, it might get a bit lumpy.....and we're fishing 500ish feet of water for the halis. I'm spooled with 65lb Powerpro, but 50 or 80 works well too.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll know Thursday if I'm going.
Paddler let me think a while on which embarrassing story I want to tell, there are so many. What buoy is the skunk buoy? Is that the red buoy between James Isl and the Needles?

Thanks again,

Dave

Dave, it's the black and white one just west of the red bouy. I think the official name is the "Q" bouy.

Beee, I have 65# braid on the 330LD, and 50# on the 320GT2. Should work. How lumpy? Also, I don't know where I'm going for hali's.

Weather is looking tough but I think we'll still be going anyway, at least we're driving up there tomorrow. We have halibut spots dialed in and we'll be glad to meet with you or give you info offline. Give me a ring when you get a chance......
