Default Bring the boat or catch a ride?

I have some time set aside next week Augusat 8th through the weekend. I am having a debate wether to bring my boat over or try to catch a ride out.

The other question is there any one around that knows how to do the TUNA thing and willing to ride with newbie out to catch them?

Are there any open seats the 8th of August on. I think I want to go out twice. There are a lot of things you think you want twice before you have had them once.

Is there any one willing to go out if I haul the MV Duckwheat over?

It would help if you were to describe your boat, gear, safety equipment and experience along with your rules and number of people you plan on taking along with their capabilities. Also any health issues that may need to be considered.

Taking the suggestion of IR. Boat is a 21 foot WA, 150HP off shore Merc, 8H Yamaha HO. 2 VHF radios, No Radar, 2 GPS. Flares, CO2 Life Jackets, Throwables (Line and Floatation). Looks like a Striper, GW,Trophy.

Have been in the Ocean a fair amount. Sailboat/Power Grew up along the gulf coast.

Two people would be ideal. Rules? I have never given rules on the boat. Don't do anything stupid, pay attention, and do not be afraid to share your opinion.

Have not made a run for TUNA yet!

I would offer you a ride, but I'm hooked up with my nephew from Montana and his college buddies all week. We will probably get out as much as we can, so I'd be glad to wing with you. Let me know what you plan on doing.

I've made several trips in my Buddy's 22' Trophy (2052). We've been out in glass-like conditions to completely turing around after a 40 mile, 3-hour ride because it was getting too sloppy (4-5' swell with 2-3 wind waves ant very short intervals (smack, smack, smack). Certainly even too rough to stand and fight fish. IF the weather turns sheepy, you dragged your boat for nothing. If the weather lays down for you, then you could catch fish.

What kinda range do you have? Keep in mind, you'll likely spend 2-3 hours running out, 2-5 hours chugging thru the water at 5-9 knots, and another 2-3 hours running in with 200-400# of fish (though fewer gallons of fuel). Your kicker will probably be pretty useless (and hopefully you'll have no use for it anyway). Plus you'll have 200# or so of ice in 2-3 coolers that you'll need have room for.

We've had 4 adults on a tuna run, but 2-3 people is best.

There's a guy in Warrenton (Frank James) who is an absolute Tuna slayin machine. I was out with him last week and he had 51 fish by 4:00 in the afternoon (the other 8 people collectively had just over a hundred). He owns a commercial longliner in Hawaii that keeps him busy 1 week a month but that aside, he's up for tuna fishing anytime.

You could learn a lot from him as he's extremely knowledgeable. I'll dig up an email address if you want to chat with him or you can try directory assistance.
