Default C R Buoy (Columbia River)

Well it was either red hot for us or the fish were thick. We pulled into Hammond Marina at a little after 8:00 am with 3 limits ( 5 ho's and 1 nook). We picked up another person and ran up river above Tounge Point to Sturgeon fish. I guess it was just our day, we were able to boat 4 keepers. Dennis Stuart (Salmon Master Guide Service) put the hurt on the Sturgeon in the same area. We were just lucky today...........Bobber Down

Fishing is tuff, but I have to provide food for my family.

Bobber Down,

Sounds like you had a awesome day. How was the bar/ocean conditions? Did you fish bait?
I won't be able to make it down until Wednesday.

Thanks, Rich

Oh, we were using hochies (green/white, & pink) with whole bait. We also lost several fish, we just couldn't keep those hooks to stay.

Richter, The bar was as flat as flat could be this morning. Out by the CR buoy was the same, with no wind. I'm sure the wind came up like it always does in the afternoon.

It was both BD. You did good, and got done before us. But the fish were semi-thick too. We limited our 2 boats out today - Dan!'s boat and Rick75/Cayo's boat. 7 of us caught over 30 fish to get our 14 keepers, with lots of natives and some shakers to release. And the silvers continue to confound anglers by frequently stealing herring off sticky sharp hooks - even with the lower trailer back a ways. HOW DO THEY DO THAT?!? ... Just one of those great days, with the bar and ocean pretty smooth too. Other ifishers along were Aron (Oregon Fish Chaser), Andy (Smily), and Ray (Mr. Fisherman). And .........

If you thought it was thick with fish today, we should be able to get out of our boats in about 3 weeks onward and walk across the bar on the backs of salmon! Apparently the pre-season prediction of 1.7 million coho to ascend the Columbia River has been updated closer to 3 million!!! Saaweeeeet! ... Of course, in order to get out there to "walk on the backs of salmon" you will need a 4 wheel drive GM Hummer or 'Monster Truck' to tow your boat over the top of 10 mile long launch lines? We went out today and got blown off the river. We were out on the sands out of the Skipanon River, We didn't even get a bite. So much for the Secret Hole Therory. We didn't even go out into the Ocean. I had to get my daughter to the airport early this morning. Today would have been a great day out on the Ocean. Oh well maybe in a couple of weeks. With my luck the Quota will be reached before I get out. That's OK though. We do have August on.

Then it sounds like the 3 mil figure was a rumor? Keep in mind that the 300K springer prediction came in at around 440K fish. Also, 1.7 mil fall salmon ... that's more than plenty!
