Default Ocean Coho; 3 limits in 45 minutes

Birdhunter, I and one other angler launched at Garibaldi about 6a today, and headed for the foatilla off twin rocks. I had been worrying and shoring up the shore ups on the boat for days prior, as the conditions were predicted to be 4 and 4, which is farily on the edge for my little boat. In fact, the ocean turned out to be incredibly friendly; the flattest I've ever seen in these parts. I was able to put the bow down and run my little 18 foot runabout at water skiing speed, even wide open; cruising about 28kts out to the hole with no major pounding. We went through and fished the far side of the fleet right off.

First hookup came in about five munutes, and it was a double; one fish boated, one got away. Over the next half hour or so, we hooked more fish than I could keep track of, and boated our six keepers in short order. All were 6-8 lbs hatchery fish with one native throw back, except one twelve pounder nailed by yours truly. I also lost right at the net, a good 15 lb Chinook, which gave an amazing tuna like fight, being nearly netted and then peeling off line four times in rapid succession.

We were trolling small herring behind flashers with divers. The hot ticket seemed to be a fast shallow 3 kt troll, 8 pulls only. Every hookup occured in 190 +/- 5 feet of water. The bite died off around 9 but some fish were still being taken when we left, with blood on the boat smiles on our faces.

I did learn on the radio that natives and quite a few chinook were being taken down deeper, and at one least one very worthy boat came up empty..?????. I guess that's why they call it fishing.

Pilar was out there (with only female passengers this time, no less), grumpy and only answering the radio when he wanted to talk, as usual, but did cheer up a bit when he started killing fish. He was flying this huge flag half the size of his boat; a state of Florida flag, I think, ...which of course we poked fun at caling it a 'gay rights banner'. So how did you do big guy? Angle~ I saw you at Lee's Camp today. I limited on summer steelhead on the lower wilson today. Great day to be fishing. I didn't see an ifish sticker on your boat or I would have introduced myself instead of just asking how you did.~~~~John

Great trip *********. Nice to meet you too Fishin Magician. Those were some beautiful fish. If only they were a tiny bit bigger. We'll have to do it again sometime. Quite the interesting experience getting out there on the ocean. I can safely say I got an education and learned some important lessons and tips. See ya later.
