Default Internet Via Satellite

Do any of you Ifishers have any inside info on internet service via satellite? It would be nice to have some service thats high speed. My choices are limited, with satellite the only choice for the next few years.

I think the only services currently available provide a satelite download, but upload still requires phone lines. My understanding is that satelite 2-way feeds are in field testing and are expected in about 2 years.

Micro$oft developed a system that allows up and down. They are supposed to have it down around the Portland area. I think they're retailing it at Radio Shack. Might be under a different name. I think it was another company that Microsoft bought up. Start up costs are spendy though with any of them. usually about $700, then another $70/month.
I didn't expect to get cable internet here so I checked into the costs of it quite a while ago.
Check out the June issue of that free computer magazine Computer Source. There is an article in there from a guy that lives outside Portland somewhere that just got this system at the Shack.

Actually I just did a little research for a client. Here's an Url that will give you a number of sites to look at.
http://www.google.com/search?q=Satel...=Google+Search

Check out www.directpc.com and www.InfoSat.com for general info about their equipment. There are a number of Internet services that provide access via satellite based on these two companies equipment.

You no longer have to worry about having a seperate phone line. Their dishes now provide two way accesss via satellite. Both services are currently slower than cable and DSL but much faster than a 56K modem.

Wow! Thanks for the info.
With cable and DSL a long ways off for us country people, this is looking very attractive.
It is the ultimate in saying nanny boo boo to the phone companies!
