Default Which would use less fuel???

A 1995 150hp merc on a 20ft trophy or an inboard vortec 350 w/kodiak pump on a 22 foot sled. Any guesses appreciated... Joe

I am not a merc. fan , but I would have to say the Merc would be cheaper to run fuel wise. Is this a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke merc.?

My brother has a 1995 Trophy with a 150 HP Mercury (2 Stroke). Actually, it is really pretty easy on fuel. A buddy has a 20' Koffler sled with the 350 vortec with a hamilton pump. It is gas hog. I know very little about pumps, but because of the efficiency they usually use more fuel than props.

I have no idea what the vortec would do but a marine mechanic told me that you can figure for every ten hp of outboard you will burn 1 gallon of fuel per hour at max throttle. This of course assumes your engine is properly tuned and at peak performance. I had a 1980 75 hp evinrude and the theory seemed to be accurate with it. However I also had a 1960 75 hp V-4 Evinrude and the fuel economy with it was about half that. Those old V-4's are like hogs at a trough!
My 19 ft Maxweld is a very heavy boat equiped with a 4.3 V-6 and a pump. Last weekend I ran 30 miles at 3200 rpm and burnt 12 gallons of fuel. I was impressed! The next day however the engine blew up.....Go figure!!!!
