Default St Maries, Idaho ... Where to fish

Hey everyone. I'm spending a little time in the mountains of Idaho earning the almighty dollar. In my spare time I'd like to do something besides the TV in the hotel room.

Any suggestions on fishing opportunities in that area? I'd be on foot and have to carry any fishing gear on the airplane as I'm flying to Spokane and then driving.

Any time I travel for work the steelhead rod and a few basic items go with. There's almost always a chance to go to church.

Thanking you in advance

Do you fly fish?? Drive up the St. Joe river from St. Maries. When you get to Avery, stop at the bar and see the human skeletin (sp) hanging on the wall, real cool.

Make sure to take your standard selection of may and caddis flies. Start fishing at Avery and fish as far up as you want to go. Some rainbows, tons of westslope cutts. Beautiful river and awsome fishing. Average fish range from 10"-18" some monsters over 20". The best part is no crowds. I used to spend a week at a time there and would see maybe a dozen other fishers all week.

good luck man!

hope you get to see the caddis hatch, you won't be able to breath they are so thick!

Hey Pilar,
You won't be far from Cour de Lane lake and they do have landlocked Chinook there. Find a resort, lots there and rent a boat or get a guide. The lake has Bass, big trout, northern pike, salmon and assorted other fish. They travel all up that area to St. Maries. You can find a lot to do. Take money as the last I knew, an out of state licence runs about $75.00. You can get a one day but not too sure the cost. If you get time, they have a boat that goes from Cour de Lane across the lake and up a ways on the St. Joe. Beautiful trip and wasn't too bad with a good meal thrown in. They show you all the fancy homes along the lake where all the movie stars spend their time. With a little time, you will enjoy the area.

Hawg,Pilar, A nonresident single day fishing liciense is $10.50 and you can add consecutive days at $4.00 per day.

If you have a full day, find Kelley Creek just north of the Locksa ... it's been catch and release for many decades ... great fishing.
