Default Another fantastic weekend

Wow! What another fantastic weekend.

Started off the weekend on Thursday evening meeting up with Spoonplugger to check his antenna. Lets just say he's ordering a new one and I'm have some more chats with Shakespeare engineers on Monday about the Galaxy 5225 FLT (psst - don't buy one if these ***). Any how great boat, excellent dock neighbor who loaned us the extension cord to solder some connectors up. Then off the Depoe for some rest - well until I ran into some other Dogs.

Hit Maverick Maxcat up on the cell phone for a dinner invite, which started off in Fishbait's motor home chomping on smoked sturgeon, pickled halibut and some amazing Rogue Spruce Gin on ice - excellent - than off to Hoovers for yet another fantastic burger and a beer. Now its late, off to bed.

Next morning find Freakwater parked next door for our day with Ron M. Freakwater was a tad Tuna sick and missed his alarm and tried to tell me he wasn't going fishing - dude you need more sleepHe was only vaguely conscious actually rather humorous. Anyhow the tackle jam soon started as the pile of gear was set out for Ron M's arrival. We filled up everyone of his rod holders, tossed on more ice than we would need and had more at the truck for later. Launched the boat and headed west.

Ocean was flat - pond water - and a nice ride out on Silverfish (a Pilot House Edwing). Very dry day. Soon we got into a few fish trolling, but it turned into a day we'd have to work for our fish. Taking our turns gutting fish, scrubbing the deck and clearing or reeling as the need arose. Arrived back at the dock 6pm something - for a long enjoyable day. Tad sunburned, but none the worse for wear.

Wife and kids arrived and off to our camp spot and Flashbacks for dinner and beverages - than soon to bed.

Saturday 3:30am came WAY to early, off in the van the meet up with HiTekRdNek and the rest of the crew. Larry a buddy of HiTek's and 2slow, both tuna newbies - running out with Pilar side by side for some photo opps of the big dog and Kismet - Dolphins in formation with the bow of Kismet - man I hope those turned out - they will be epic shots. Kismet 1/2 out of the water - with the Dolphins. Off to tips from the day before and soon the battle was on. Couldn't get gear in the water fast enough a few peanuts but mostly the big fish we've been seeing all year so far - Mexican Flag P-Line Rippers and Zukers (Zucchini and Pina Colada (I think) were scoring all the action. Enough so that my JX bit the dust - more on that later. 11:30 and we were ready to head in, but tried to get the magical last two fish for a new boat record - little did we know - but they were already on ice in the chill tank.

Back at Depoe Pilar helped with carking lessons I badly needed and got the rest of the crew up to speed and made quick work of the fish while the skipper "Washed the boat"

Got back to camp in time to take the girls to dinner at a normal dinner time, couple of beverages and a deep sigh.

I'm going to remember this summer for a long time - thanks everyone

PS: were going to change the name of our team for Warrenton - Team Can't Count

Another interesting report.
You mentioned "Ocean was flat - pond water", you were lucky. It was real sloppy off SW WA.

Great report. You are having way too much fun this summer. Met Freakwater in Garibaldi to fish my boat Saturday. I got to the marina 45 minutes early and he was already there organizing his gear. We must be talking about a different guy. We had a great day as well setting a new boat record also.

Hey now.....I was all about fishing! Had a funny dream that there was a reason that I was not going.... discussions were had and the decision was final. Thought it was odd that Stickfish was not in on the news and insisted on waking me up. Kinda like one of those dreams that you've brushed your teeth, had a bowl of cereal, and you're on your way out the door to drive to work only to wake up and your a half hour late...

Yes, another fantastic weekend with great company that ended on the sickest bite I've seen. Thanks again to ron m and Something Good.

Good to see you John, I figured that was Ted with you, should have stopped to say but the skipper wanted to go fishing.

Friday was an awesome day, plugged the boat by 12:30 and a great 28kt run in.

Ted, thank you so much for checking out the vhf. I'll never buy a Shakespeare again. Digital this go around. It will be here Monday or Tuesday, and on the boat it will go.

Hey you guys, Stickfish knows his stuff!

You've got a tuna trip on the ACB. Just let me know when ya want to go.

Well My Firstmate Ted has told you the most of it.
What a day. Had a great time and really can't beleive the summer I'm having. I wonder at times if this isn't a dream for me.
I'm very lucky to have Ted onboard. He has as much into this season as I have.
And yet it is only halftime. WOW !!!

Firstly, I have to thank HiTekRdNek for the trip, I had a blast. Secondly I have to cuss HiTekRdNek for ruining ALL of my fishing efforts for other species, I'll never be the same!!

It's kind of like when I first moved here and went salmon fishing with some of my "big" trout gear, first thing I said after hooking that first fish was " I need some bigger gear!". Now, after my first tuna trip I only have one thing to say " I need some bigger gear!" Problem this time is that it includes the boat!!!

Thanks again Mike!!

Great post Ted. And that amazing Rogue Spruce Gin on ice - excellent-is awsome. I liked it so well bought a bottle a few weeks back. Didn't get to hook up for the antenna check but will attempt again next time. Hitek told me at the convention that Tuna would take me to the dark side and I'm affraid he's right. I'm already buying bigger gear. Got my first solo Saturday and even broke in the Misses. Sounds like I picked a good year to get broke in or maybe not could tend to leave higher expectations for coming years. Anyway great report and hope to catch ya next time.

Your welcome! It was a great time having you onboard. You learned fast and made a good deckhand. No need for bigger boat. All the skippers need crew. And you can learn alot from going with others.
I told you the force is Strong. And resistance is futile.
