What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
Hey....since the fall season is fastly approaching.....I was wondering what the most consistently productive lure you use is. Mine is the Flash Glo spinner. I've never seen a lure hook so many fish. Salmon and steelies love these things. I'll use them during salmon season because A. They HOOK fish and B. Steelhead will also take them. I'll generally rig them with a 34" dropper, sliding lead line, about 17" of leader with a barrel swivel, then another 17" of leader followed by the spinner. Keep any eye on your rod tip. You should be able in most cases to see your rod tip pulsating. If it quits....you probably have some crud on your line. Keep it clean. Sharpen your hooks. And get the net ready!!

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
Hi FM:
My favorite lure is already in your boat. Thanks for the invite tomorrow. I'm squeezing in a potential boat ride (crossing my fingers for fish) in the North River til noon. Then off to Blue Lake park for the annual family picnic. Lets hook up soon...maybe Sunday. How's your early schedule look? Say Hi to the Mrs.

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
My favorite lure would also have to be a Flash Glo spinner. This crusty old guy once showed it to me and made me promise not to tell anyone about it. Ooops. We hooked two springers that day in an attempt to show him up but I think the final score was a lot higher in FishinMiss....I mean, that old barnacle's favor.
I also have a favorite Clancey that hooked 3 upriver brights in a little over an hour one morning at the mouth of the Kalama. Biggest one was 45 lbs. That thing was killing them until my last salmon bent it in the net. Never touched another fish after that, but I'm confident that with a little adjusting it will be back to its old fish-slaying self.

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
Great topic! Too bad the thread is already diluted with 2-way chat. Isn't that what e-mail is for? Anyway, here's a "secret weapon", Gamagatsu treble in pink or chartreuse, matched with similar color corkies for the body and a Thin Twin mylar blade. Try dots of color on the blade. This rig works well in the current and reportedly will even catch sockeye in the Columbia!

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
I too have had some luck with the Flash Glo, but I think I have caught more on the Size 5 Brass blade/Orange body Vibrax spinner. And just picked up a new one that I am anxious to try this year. It is almost like a Bronze color, never seen it before this year. What Flash Glo's seem to be more productive for you, the Silver or Brass blades??

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
For me the best lure by far has been a plug; the wiggle wart. Silver under red or silver under yellow. I've also found that running them 4' behind a string of flashers adds a great deal to the results. I've had my best luck running the rig just outside the seam with a fast drop off bank; ususally the shallowest anchored boat around.
Granted the rig is long and cumbersome and snaggy, and a pain come netting time, but I have had success with this setup amongst lots of boats, with no one else catching diddly. Once early in the year, near the top of Govmt. Island, I showed up, heard how dead it was, banged my first fish immediately, and my second in under a half hour, and took off for sturgeon.... Man did I get some dirty looks that day!

Gold Alvin. I don't mess with the bend. I do remove the factory hook, attach a large good quality barrel swivel and a stainless 6/0 siwash hook. With this riggin' the hook point frequently exits out the side of their head! ...perfect Tyee medicine!

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
The Flash Glo I like has a silver blade...#124....My bud's been doing well on a brass bladed spinner similar to the 124..in the Cowlitz Mouth area. I might have to try a brass one but it's hard to let go of ...the red ones work well closer to Bonneville too.

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
hey fishin mission,
lomg time no talk..I have not been home lately with work and fishing going on. But, I have a proposition for you...I have begun to tie up these flash glo spinners myself with my one wire, beads and blades. They are identical. I know that my place of business never seems to have them in so if you ever need any... let me know. Also, I have begun to make them in different colors. I love the chartuese body flash glo for the salmon and then the pink flash glo for the steelies that I have tied up. I make them in the #124 nd the #125 sizes. And dont pay attention to birdie and his calling you an old barnacle. He kids because he loves ! By the way, went steelhead fishing above the washougal...two boats, four fish...(3 steelhead, 1 salmon) the steelhead were all keepers. We were anchored in 6-8 feet of water.

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
So, now we're selling Flash & Go. Its always something. The kwikfish crap should have been enough but NO.... now we have the latest! How about a fisher created and inventive lure, maybe something not on the market. How about some metal that we can create without shake and bake.

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
I like the Blue Fox Vibrax in "red" ... sizes 4 or 5. Anyone have suggestions for a good way to replace the hooks?

Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
Coot...I gotta bag of 124 parts too. That should keep Scrod happy....mmmm hand crafted...less expensive versions of a KILLER spinner. Very few here on Ifish have been "Converted to 124's"...their loss, huh? If they only knew........... Re: What's Yer favorite Columbia River Lure??
Herring below Tongue Point and Kwikfish above for salmon.
For steelhead small Flatfish.
