Default Fear of flying

Who's been feeding my fish??? We're not catching bullets, we're hooking hogs!!! I'm guessing our average has been 22 - 25lber's, with a 30+ now and then to keep it interesting. That's great, but....

I'm actually afraid to unlimber my flyrod for these guys. I think I could land one if my rod and reel could survive the initial hit and run; but I don't know. I do know that several times yesterday I started to put the long-stick together but just couldn't bring myself to offer it up for sacrifice. Never thought I would say that.

These ARE the Good Old Days! Wow!

You needed to be with us yesterday, I think we were fishing with Jimmy Carter, nothing but peanuts, I am not sure we had more than 1 or 2 fish that hit 20lbs. :frown: Lots of 8 to 12 pounders

I would of liked to seen the newbie if he was reeling in bigger fish

Thought you would still be fishing but you must be home. Can't you post a more detailed report than that???

Jim, I don't think you need to worry about the rod disassembling on these larger tuners - if it explodes - that truly will these the good old days to remember

When I was there earlier this month I also thought that most of the fish that we hooked were larger than average from the last couple of years.
On my last ride out I landed a 40# on a fish trap. That was a new record for me to land. Can,t wait to see how big they will be by the end of Aug and Sept.

That'll teach you to drink Billie Beer and fish out of Tilly when you are a Valley Guy now! Roy, Roy, Roy!!

We only picked up 2, repeat, that is, 2 peanuts. All the rest were 22 to 30-plus. Back at harbor by 1 o'clock. Of course we don't have the capacity for numbers, nor do we feel the need to stay till the sun sets like some people... , but it was a nice ocean and a good day for a flat bottom river boat to be out at 25 miles plying the salt water for Tuners.

I'm sure your "boss" will fill you in tomorrow. Oh, and welcome to the Willamette Valley, home of the almighty leaf-hopper, where grass seed growers reign. Rose says Hi.

Interesting info..several years chasing tuna out of San Diego we caught Albies mostly in the 12 to 18 lb range..largest weighed in at 33 lbs.

Only one Oregon trip under my belt but the fish were all between 20 and 29. Just a lot bigger. Couldn't help but wonder if they are a year older than off SD. Not going to be using the 15lb bait stick much I guess.

We fished the 12wt for hours yesterday and couldn't get it bit.

Some of our multiples came as we fished the slide, and then when completely stopped, as the lures sank would a second and maybe a third rod load up.

Looking back, maybe I would have done better if I'd tied on the heavy 30' shooting head, and let that sink the fly quickly down.

Lessons learned to be tried tomorrow.....

Skein,
The 12 weight and 10 weight both have lifetime guarantees. I'd be more than happy to dedicate them to the cause. Cold water fast sinking lines are already spooled. I'm kind of hosed for the next couple of weeks, but you let me know when you want to go after them with flyrods and we'll see if we can exercise some return policies.
