Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Home River - mouth of the Columbia (I like to own big things)
Home Lake - I'd have to say Diamond or Davis. Fished both of them hundreds of times growing up in Klamath Falls. Miller Lake would qualify also. Hmm - this is hard!

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Home river: the stretch of the Columbia between St. Hellens and Rainier. Growing up I spent way too much time fishing for sturgeon and salmon during the seasons.
Home lake: Salmonberry Lake. It's really just a small reservior above St. Hellens (probably only 5 to 10 acres), but they used to stock it with trout every year and the bass in that lake confounded me each summer.
Its kind of funny, although I consider each of the above to be "home", I haven't fished either in several years (I did spend some time earlier this year plunking for Springers). After dad sold his boat it was much harder to fish the Columbia, and Salmonberry Lake started to loose its appeal after all the rednecks discovered it and trashed it.

Home river --- the Lewis, north and east forks.

Home River; The Rogue below Graves Creek. Incredible place just to visit, and the salmon fishing can be second to none.
Home Lake; Klamath Lake. Caught alot of trout in there that would rival most steelhead

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Home River - Yellow River
Home Lake - Lake Jackson
Those two always let me know when "I'm home" since Yellow River runs on our property, and Lake Jackson is 2 blocks from my granny's. (largest natural lake in alabama, u.s., or world one?)
In Washington,
Home River = Cowlitz
Home Lake = Offut Lake

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
My favorite river would have to be the Big Nestuc, i have spent many many years catching metalheads out of that river. It is so pretty its a place like you described where you can just be at piece with yourself. The Elk hunting is pretty darn good also. My home lake would have to be the Big cultus, fantastic makinaw fishing and and a wonderful place for a family.

Nothing says "Redneck Living" like the ol' "Yellow River" running on your property. Not nearly as fun since you moved to the land of indoor plumbing.

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Since I don't really fish lakes much I guess I'll have to stick with rivers. I have three that I consider home, the Upper Rogue, the Nestucca and the Trask. My favorite hole on the Nestucca became a gravel bar a few years ago but thats half the fun is finding new spots that consistantly produce. I also love floating the Kilchis when the waters right. Aw, he!!
I love em' all!!!!!!

Home River: Skykomish (I guess it's home, since it's the one that I fish the most)
Home Lake: Lake Ki (I don't fish for trout much, but when I do, it's the one I fish most)
I grew up fishing the Sacramento river delta in CA with my dad for stripers and sturgeon, so I guess that will always be considered my true home river

Home River: Mouth of the Kalama. Never really feel like I'm Chinook fishin, unless I'm within view of the cabins at Kalama Club and ol' dolphin #43.
Home Lake: Rock Creek Reservoir. Stocked trout on a tiny flatfish still keep an old man's interest. Just rowing around that pothole makes me feel 18 again.

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Sorry, but I have 5 of each:
Lakes:
1.) Diamond
2.) Fir
3.) Crane Prairie
4.) Odell
5.) Green Peter
Rivers:
1.) Deschutes
2.) Siletz
3.) North Umpqua
4.) Mill Creek (Paradise Valley)
5.) Moose Creek (Salmon Idaho)
You know, this list is too short. I am at peace on all of these as long as the crowds are not too large. There are at least a dozen more of each scattered across the entire northwest. This is a fun thread, but isn't this more of a cabin fever fantasy pastime? Something we do when all the rivers are blown out and the weather too bad to go out?
OH! If I only had more time to fish.

Home rivers and home lakes
What do you consider your home river or home lake?
This could be the one you grew up on or the one you now fish, or even one where you instantly felt a connection.
The river that you feel at home on, where you know every riffle, every bend, where the fish lie, where you go to be yourself and feel peace?
And.... As Dave Hughes writes, "It is not written that you cannot have both a home river and a home lake".
I feel like my home river will always be the Necanicum... with a close second the Klaskanine... Although I feel a close connection now with the Kilchis. (dang this is hard!) I love them all! The North Fork! Argh!
My home lake, Diamond lake.

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Wow tough choice for me on the rivers. I like to fish the Olympic Peninsula streams. Every Hole brings back different memories and the friends you fished them with. Don't think anybody has enough money for me to share my best places. But for lakes I have to choose Sutherland for Cutthroat/Kokanee Fishing and Cresent for its Beauty.

Easy for me...they are still the two bodies of water that I return to:
Chehalis for: Steelhead, Salmon, Sturgeon, Whitefish, suckers, *********, sculpin....
Spanaway for: Trout, bass, crappie, perch etc....
Hey even caught some crappie in the Chehalis with my boys last week.
Fishin...any kind...is to much fun!!!

Home river The upper Kalama, even though havent spent much time up there in the last couple years do know it better than any other body of water though. Also the Sandy, get out there a lot .
Dont do any lake fishing. The closest to a lkae I fish a lot would be T-bay.

Home Lake- Tenmile Lake
Home River- Tenmile Creek
Spent my childhood killing Salmon, Trout, Bass, Bluegill and Catfish in both and Steelhead in the creek once I hit my teenage years. My house was on the creek and I'd fish from our dock almost every day, fish are just now getting brave enough to come back.

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
You know, SnagMagnet, I was in Bosie last weekend and did some fishing at a little lake around there. Caught 8 rainbows that morning. Smallest was 15" and the biggest was 23". Average size was 20". I think I like your Idaho fish. I would encourage everyone to make a trip out there. The lake I fished was ********** lake just outside of ********** and the only thing the fish would bite was a ********** or a *******.

Not much of a lake fisherman, but I consider the Siletz my home river now. I've only fished it a few short years, but have really connected with it (and the fish) from the gorge to tidewater.

Salmo, then I guess you'll be wanting those fish back that I took out of there last weekend . From the length and girth I estimate one to be right around 17 lbs . Biggest steelie I've ever caught, or real close to it.

Re: Home rivers and home lakes
Hmmmmmm, where is home......
River's
*Alsea
*Siletz
*Lower Columbia
*Santiam Mainstem
Lake's
*Green Peter resevoir
*Yaquina Bay
*Waldport Bay/Tidewater
These are home since I spend most trips fishing the above locations and most date back to my earliest fishing memories.
Hey Salmo and Kwik, don't be spreading any rumors about mystical fish. Only fish down on the S river these days are minnows and bullhead. Happens every year when the water temps hit 68 degrees.
