Default Washington County Fair dock dogs

Dock Dogs will be jumping Friday Saturday and Sunday in Hillsboro. Hope to see some of you guys out there. If you bring your dog out I'll introduce you to some folks and make sure you get some help out there, if you want.

Please introduce yourself. We'll be the noisy gang with three labs.

It's exciting to be able to jump so close to home for a change! Wish us luck!

Admission in to the fair is free and you have to register your dogs at the dock dog trailer if you want to give it a try. There will be lots of new dogs trying it out over the weekend. It cost $20 for an adult to jump your dog twice in a wave and $10 for 14 and under. You get ribbons or medals for doing it and it is lots of fun!

Great! bring the dog! We helped a guys with a GSP that never jumped before (Igor) and two events later they made it into the Pro Big Dogs Finals! He almost beat Bucky I told him he was one his own after that wave

You'll see Hanna and Heidie at this event and their first event was at the Eugene fair last year ....... they won the Pro Finals!

You don't know what you got till you try and guaranteed you'll have fun.

There are several divisions in Big Air (distance jumps)

Novice 0-10 feet
Junior 10-15 feet
Senior 15-20 feet
Master 20 -23 feet
Elite 23 - 25 feet
Super Elite 25 and over ( I've only seen a couple dogs make jumps over 25')

So you're first time lab or GSP or mutt or beagle or poodle or Spaniel or grey hound or whatever could come out and jump 9' 11" and end up with a Blue ribbon or medal for Novice division or 19' 11" for Senior division and end up with a Blue ribbon or medal or 23' 1" and get a participant only medal?

You never know where some of these dogs will start but after a couple of jumps, you're competing against dogs that jump about the same distance even though you may be in line with a little jumper in front of you and a champion behind you. It's all great fun.

John

Take off!

Ifishers,
I'm looking forward to meeting you guys that pm'd me and are bringing your dogs out. And those that I haven't talked to yet please look me up.

The waves have started and our first jump is tonight in Cadet Extreme Vertical. We'll be there all day Saturday and Sunday.

My boys are gunning to take Dad and Bucky down, They're telling me tonight's the night there's going to be a new Top EV dog in the family. This morning my son John John said "Bucky you are getting so gray" and Jason said, "yeah just like Dad" and then young John said we're "both too old to jump any more."

Young whipper snappers. We're going to take them down! The smack talk has begun.

Then as if on Que, I hear my friend on the radio talking about Dock dogs at the fair and be sure to come out and see the "biggest hams" in dock dogs, John and Bucky and his boys Jason and John are going to take them down this weekend.

"old age and treachery" always defeats youth and energy ..... whoooooaaaaaaahhh!

See you there!

John

Huge Congratulations to Kristi and Henna who took 1st place tonight in EV Cadet at Washington County Fair. They are real Pros and wonderful ambassadors to the sport. Brown dogs rule. Bucky and I finally got a little bit higher off the dock for the first time this year and managed to sneak in second. We had a lot of help from a great crowd! I asked them to give me some noise and it sounded like a plane was taking off. Bucky liked it too and made one more grab than I thought he could do tonight. I think I'm starting to see a glimmer of the ole' EV Bucky again. We still have a long ways to go but tonight felt good. Don't they look awesome with their shiny new medals! ;D ;D ;D

While second to Kristi and Henna feels pretty good ... it doesn't feel nearly as good as being able to keep our Top Dog in the Nicholson Household title.
My boys are really gunning for me and Bucky and I thought tonight was the night Jason and Shy Shy were going to hand it to us on a platter! :o
But no! Old grey men with old grey dogs win! Hey boys, I don't see any bling wrapped around your doggies shoulders. he he he.
I am very excited to say 11 month old Huggy Bear is now an official EV Dock Dog grabbing his first two bumpers at a national event. The entire show was exciting but I think Huggy Bear's first grab at 5' was the most thrilling thing I've seen in a long while. He totally missed his first attempt and all of our family and DD friends and the crowds were cheering like crazy for him on his second attempt. You gotta get emotional over a boy and his puppy! The energy in the air helped make it happen. My heart was in my throat! John John made a set up adjustment on the dock and Bear blasted through the grab! ;D ;D ;D It was absolutely thrilling for our family to see that and people around us were giving high fives and celebrating and John John came down the exit stairs with a smile that was ear to ear. How do you put a price tag on that! It was awesome!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Dock Dogs is great family fun!

We have thought of taking our female Chocolate Lab (Sage) to the Dock Dogs before but have never made it..We have let her jump off a very low dock and she did good..Not sure what she would think of those high docks..Are you going to the Lane County Fair..If so maybe we will bring Sage by for a little coaching if you dont mind..

Bring Sage by! We'll be at Clark County Fair too.

Oh Oh Oh all the Nicholson dogs made the finals at Washington County Fair ... Bucky in the Pros and Shy Shy and Huggy Bear with the boys in the amateur finals!

It was a huge finish with three granstand full and standing room only around the pool fencing.

It's the first time that all our dogs made the finals on the same competition. This was a really well attended national competition and there were well over a hundred dogs plus jumping sice last Thursday.
Pics when I get them! We have some family celebrating going on right now! The dogs are whooped and all sleeping and we're bouncing of the walls.

We had one family picture of the boys and I taken on the dock with the dogs in front of us and they're all wearing their big medals. I can't wait to show them off!

Proud Papa here!

We got a chance to catch them first thing on Sunday morning. It was a lot of fun. There was a jack russle terrier that made a huge 2'-7" jump.

It looked like the owners had almost as much fun as the dogs did.

My family headed out to the fair just to see the dock dogs. What a kick in the pants. So much so that my wife talked me into entering our lab in the Clark county fair. I have been trying to work with her in the yard but the water might be a whole different story. I have read everything I can find on this subject but I am nervous.
We even took her to Lacamas lake last night but the dock had a 4X4 for boats tyeing up to that was not suitable for her to jump off of. We then took her to the bank for some jumps and she promptly found a bees nest as she was coming out of the water.
I would love to meet up with anyone from ifish that will be at the Clark County fair. Our schedule jump time is 6 PM Friday night. I hope to get off work and fight traffic to get there for some practice jumps!

Fantastic pics by the way!
