Default 5 Days - Wild Game Birds

August first marks the first legal day that you can run a new puppy on wild birds. I live in Madras, any ideas to were some good public land that holds birds?

Chucker Reports?

Quail Reports? I’ve seeing some but not a lot.

check seasons first. I don't think they open until sept1. you can get some birds from pens and plant them but remember to have a receipt.

I wouldn't run a pup in the East Side during August unless it was early in the morning.

Too blasted hot, and a pup is going to be interested in everything (including rattlers) which are available in abundance east of the cascades.

I'd run them on Valley Quail/ ruffs and mtn Quail , or farmed birds at a game ranch.

I think August 1st relates to the opening of preserve hunting, but not the general upland seasons. I looked at the ODFW website the other day and the 2007-2008 game bird regs aren't out yet.

I think the hunter is talking about working his dog on wild birds, not actually shooting them

I thought working them on birds included dumping a few so the dog gets the complete picture.
