Default Twin Rocks

Hoping that the seas will die down by Thursday. Did anyone fish yesterday? Are the coho still by twin rocks out of T Bay? Also are there any reefs for bottom fishing near twin rocks? If it doesn't lay down, it may be a moot point. But I was hoping for an up to date report anyway. Thanks!

By the way, if you're planning a trip over a bar here's a must havelink

Ramstrong, I wish I had fished yesterday. The lake was flat and no wind. Fished Monday out from the rocks. Picked up a double both clipped and lost one. NW wind came up and made things uncomfortable. 180 seems to be the depth. If it blows they could be scattered though when it dies down.
Good luck!

Ryan
I hope the fish are still there. I will be moving the family to the spit near crab harbor starting Friday camping thru the 4th of July. I hope to find flat seas so I can run a few miles out and chase a couple coho around. I wouldnt mind having the crab pots out in the ocean rather than the bay also.

Something appealing about going out in the ocean and catching fish, right up to the point I round the corner and look at the bar. I perform a gender check at that point, watch the waves and decide how bad I want to fish. I hope to find the courage to venture out to 180 to 200 feet of water. Sometimes my senses prevail and I crab in the bay, other times I have a mometary lapse of sense and go straight ahead.

I will let you know when I get back if the bar looked flat, my open bow, underpowered boat had a captain that felt bullet proof or human.

I fished with D&D Charters out of Garibaldi yesterday and, yes, the fish are still there. We actualy fished a bit further north of Twin Rocks - about five miles out from Neahkahnie mountain. The boat limited out and the catch ratio ran about 60% natives to 40% clipped fish. The keepers ran about 4-6 lbs with one "monster" hatchery fish in the 12 lb range.

Thanks for the up to date reports. here's the outlook for Thurs from cape shoalwater to cascade head.
NW WIND 15 KT. WIND WAVES 3 FT. W SWELL 5 FT.
I don't think Dan's boat is 24ft! I've been out in 8 ft combined seas before at Windy bay in my Dad's 22ft Sea Swirl and we were able to catch some fish, but talk about a pucker factor of 10. It's always fun when you're in the troughs, and all you can see is water on all sides! I don't know if I'd be as brave now that I'm older and wiser. Besides Dan! is the skipper of the boat and it will be his call. Hopefully it will lay down more than they're predicting. It looks like the cold front is over us now so you never know. Anyway, thanks again.

Well boys? Did you get any? Mr. Fisherman tried to send me a photo or two but it didn't work. Can you tell us some details about your trip?

Where did you fish? What worked? How many did you get?

I guess a guy could just look for the fleet but I'd rather go with a little inside knowledge.

Thanking you in advance!

Well Pilar, here's the run down. Met Mr Fisherman, Rickh75 and Skipper Dan! at the ramp at the Garabaldi Marina @ 5:00 Check bar conditions buy some bait and then head out. Drop the pots both in crab harbor and outside and make for twin rocks.

180' start trolling. Absolutely no boats in sight, Skipper was pissin and moaning something about chasin the charters . We get all 4 rods down hand the 4th to Mr Fisherman and his goes off. First fish in the boat right off. Dan! puts his rod down deep at 50 pulls and shortly after his rod go's off 20lb nooker. Dan was quite pleased with himself and rightly so.

To make a long story short at 8:00 we had 6 in the boat looking to finish up on our two real quick and the bite dies down. We trolled until 1:00 and only scraped up 1 more fish. Left with one short but still a cooler full of fish. Dan's was the biggest, then rickh caught a 16 lb nook. I broke off a quality nook (how'd that happen again?) and the rest were coho. The magic depth was 189 north of twin rocks, just hit the rip and follow it north.

We also made a failed attempt at bottom fishing, but now we know where to go. And finished the day with 21 crab. All in all an excellent trip with some good guys. Mr Fisherman took the pictures and hopefully we'll see some posted. That's the abbreviated version.

Also we had a good experience with the mill marina. The owner allowed us to use his fish cleaning station for free and cooked all of our crab for $5. We had a nice chat with him and is a very nice guy. The launch is free and as long as you don't try to get in on a minus tide you should be fine. He was trying to dredge the channel before this season, but got caught up in red tape. Next year the channel should be dredged. This place definately warrants your business.

Dan!, Rickh75 and Mr Fisherman feel free to fill in the details that I forgot.
