Default RT & Jen..

I empathise with and appologise for the delema I have presented you with. That was by no means my intent, nor was insulting anyone. You apparently are faced with the old "please some of the people some of the time" addage...a very good reason to keep open forums open and not try to be politicians. (God knows we have enough of those already!)

Thanks for keeping my posting up, although had you chosen to remove it, I would not have protested. I think closing the topic was the right thing to do; this is no place for political debates.

Bottom line, and I think everyone should agree on this: Risking damage and injury by slinging lead projectiles is unacceptable, even if I parked my boat 10 feet from his toes at the only bank accessable spot in the state, and remained there for a week.

I do realize I could have gotten my head blown off by going ashore, but that would not have detered me unless shots were fired. Had it become neccessary, I would have swam there, cleaned his clock, walked upstream, and swam back. And I'll wager he'd have ran away by the time I got half way to shore ...and that would have been that.

Again, please accept my humble regrets. This is the last I will write on the subject and will try to be slightly more sensitive to others' opinions in the future (unless they sling led at my boat in which case I reserve the right to say or do anything, politically correct and socially acceptable or not).

Thanks,
DC

Nice post Angle. You weren't the only one making the thread a political thing. I will readily admit that many times I should keep my big mouth shut (especially lately). I do like the one guys' idea of carrying a slingshot. You could have pulled the guys line into the boat instead of cutting it, and fired his lead right back at him!!!!

daring one more clarification ...

Flinging lead at boat = not cool
Threatening violence = not cool
Enhancing a good story with (ahem!) "epithets" (?) = not cool

Surprise chinook = ALWAYS COOL

Jen,

I just want to let you know that I think (whatever that is worth) you handled that post very fairly. I , for one would rather see the bad words edited rather than an entire thread (record) deleted. Now it is there for others to see what an example of the kind of content you do not want. I know it took a little extra effort but I APPRECIATED the methodolgy applied.

Thank You

Thomas

Thanks for your clarification post A.T. Apparently you haven't been here reading the BB lately and all the debates over board content, and the resultant resolutions seemingly accepted by most. You were way out of line with the ****head vulgar word and the racist name calling, both on the river and in your posts here. They have been very clearly ruled against by the site administration. I'm not trying to be a moderator again, just letting you know what you've missed recently. ...

As for my comments to the moderators that criticized leaving your posts unaltered, I wrote this followup sentence with it, "If Jen or the 3 mods all missed it (your posts), please pardon the criticism; but take a closer look if you are going to accept a mod's responsibilities!" Not all were out of town and Jen was on board. She has gotten a little trigger shy because of editing and deleting backlash, so I understand where she's coming from. But your posts were clearly way out of line with site policy and stayed up much longer than more benign things did - thus the call for fairness and consistency. That's just my opinion - I don't have any connection to the mods or anything. I had suggested putting astericks in place of your vulgar word and in place of your racist words, rather than delete the thread over it - and explaining the rules to you since it appeared you missed them. Just a member's $0.02 worth, that's all. Back to peace and fishing hopefully. No long thread needed again?

I like the idea of a line item veto, but it also seems like quite a bit of work for the moderators. Some stories are so good that it is a shame to delete the whole post for a few ill advised remarks.

It would be nice if everyone was able to simply edit their work and take out the offensive stuff before they post. Unfortunately, some people are simply unaware that they are not in a bar with the guys. Being a public forum, there is a wide variety of people who read and participate and of those, many I'm sure who are offended by ribald and racist remarks.

Do your best Jen. The more discussion there is about the negative content, the more awareness there will be. Eventually, we will evolve to a more enlightend level and a broader less offensive vocabulary.

I missed it...got my daughters in town, and am not spending too much time here if at all. I think you could have gotten your point across without all the epitephs...been there at that spot and seen what you're talking about. But why ask for conflict?? Suppose the guy DID have a gun..you wanna die for some measly shad, or even for a chinook?? Not me. Life is too short. And thanx for the apology. Mark

Boater quote, "If anyone pulls a slingshot on me I will kick their @$$". Does that mean you throw lead at people? Even a second time after a warning not to? I think a slingshot at the guy's nads, legs, or stomach would be appropriate if he was repeatedly trying to hit a person with lead - I'll stand by that statement. For me it would depend on how close the guy came to me with the lead thrown more than once. However, I think it would be much better to just leave and fish another place. ... BTW Boater, if my posts keep upsetting you, why don't you just stop reading them - like most people have stopped reading yours? - RT

The story could have been told without the racist remarks and juvenile macho posturing. Didn't we just go through all of this stuff about proper board conduct? I wonder what name the offending bank angler would have been called if he would have been caucasian? Would some ethnic slur been used? I doubt it.
Consistency is the key word here.

It is rediculous! And it all centers around a few people.
Oh well!
I'm closing this one too.
Have a nice day!
