Default Odell Lake this weekend

I got some friends headed there this weekend. I have been thinking of dragging the sled up there too. Does anybody know if it's worth it?

We stopped by Odell yesterday on our way back from camping over by Silver Lake. One boat trailered while we ate lunch, took a peek in thier cooler and saw 20 to 25 very nice kokes. They caught all trolling, no specifics beyond that... Joe

I used to fish Odell quite a bit, especialy while Green Peter was recovering from the floods of 96 and 97. The techniques I use are quite similar to what I use up at Suttle and GP, with a few differences. (See the Suttle lake threads for details) Odell is very windy, so if your boat can handle drifting sideways in the wind, wind troll.

Odell lake Kokes seem to be uncommonly fond of a chartreuse bead on the hook. The fish are usually deeper this time of year, so start at 30 pulls and work your way down from there. On Calm days in late summer I have trolled out as much as 100 pulls. Wherever the fish are jumping, they will also be deeper so I usually put in at Princess creek, troll westerly parallel to the shore in 100 feet of water, and if that doesn't work, troll towards the jumping fish. I usually find the most fish in the West end of the lake. The waves will usually be smaller here also.
Good Luck.
I hope to see a report.
Mark

Tilla, Odell should be producing good koke catches this time of the year. I would suggest you put in at the campgrounds ( nice and much better ramp and free) and then head west towards the marina. Look for the boats and early in the morning is the best, right at sunup. We always used the green wedding rings and enough lead to get down to them. Usually put a small piece of worm on the hook for a little scent and it drove them to a feeding frenzy. They have a nice cleaning station at the marina. Stop in for coffee and talk to them, they will steer you in the right direction. Cagey.

Tilla,
I would recommend jigging in about 100 to 110 feet of water if you can anchor up at that depth. Trolling works good but jigging consistantly produces bigger fish. Plus when your jigging there is a fairly good chance that you will hook into a Mackinaw while fishing for Kokanee. The area straight out from Shelter Cove is the best b et. There is also a good spot up towards trapper creek in about 85 to 95 feet of water that tends to hold large schools. If you need greater detail send me an email.
