Big Creek is closed for trout and you might want to check the regs on gnat creek. Do you have your sights set only on a stream. I was up at lost lake off of hwy 26 a couple weeks ago and the guys in the float tubes were performing pretty well. I seen a big one come out of there, at least 4 to 5 lbs. Wasn't on a fly but you never know. Might try the Necanicum or Nehalem. Had a freind fly fishing last week around Big Eddy park and he picked up a half dozen fish upto 16".

Good Luck!

I don't know how good it is for water whipping, but I always did real good on the upper Clatskanie River. Its fairly small, and I don't know what the current regulations are but here is how you get out there:

Right next to the Deer Island store is Cannan Road. Follow Cannan Road and it turns into Meisner Road. Meisner Road will t-bone with Apairy Road. Go left on Apairy, and the river (really a stream this high into the head waters) will parallel the road for a ways. If the logging roads are open, you can drive back and get into some more water. Total distance from Hwy 30 should be between 20 and 30 miles.

Or you could try the Clatskanie River lower down. Drive out to Clatskanie and the river will pass under Hwy 30. Follow the river upstream a ways and you'll get into some good water. Again, check the regulations.

Good luck!
