Default Yaquina Bay Herring

Lots of herring in the bay this past weekend. Easy to jig for a limit in an hour or so. Not very big about 4-6 inches but fun for the kids and cheap bait!

This weekend we'll be camping at South Beach State Park and I would like to get the kids (and me) into some herring. I presently have no room in the freezer (filled with shad, smelt, & April herring) but fresh bait is hard to pass up. Where or how did you find the schools of herring? Thanks for the info! If no one is jigging you'll see the birds going crazy feeding. If you go out in the bay between the fishing pier and the undersea gardens you can see the little buggars jumpin and waving to you. The herring are in the bay water forget the jetty. Have fun!
