Call your cell service provider and tell them to shut off texting capabilities for your number. You won't be able to text, but it doesn't sound like you do anyway. I had to do that with my kids phones.

I have recently, like the last few days been receiving these same 'hot stock tips' on my phone. I received two in the middle of the night last night too, and jumped up to check both thinking they were important. Looks like I will be calling my provider.

I tried to get T-mobile to shut off texting on my cell. They told me they could not as it was a "feature" necessary to communicate with them.

I used the analogy that I was being forced to accept a collect phone call and pay for it (we do not use texting, so our plan does not include any free messages). I told them the next one that they billed me for and I would cancel my contract, agreement or not and we could take it to small claims court. At this point I was informed that I had agreed (fine print in contract) that I could not sue them and that arbitration is what would be required.

Just sent them my cancellation notice with a certified letter that I will not be using their services any more (11+ year customer) and that I would be happy to test the legality of their contract. The dispute letters are already written and ready to send to equifax and trans union. My attorney says I have a legitimate gripe and do not have to pay for serivces that I cannot reasonably deny. I may be held liable for the disconnect fee... but I will dispute and make them work for it.

Good luck to you all. Vote with your wallet.

Well you won't be alone, same problem here. T Mobile sold the numbersfor advitisers to use the text message on the phones at customers expense. Look at class action. I will be with you.

did you attempt to download any "free" ringtones from the internet? the ones where they text you a confirmation number before you can log in to the site?

if so...you've got SPAM!!! there are processes to cancel the messages from the companies, but they don't make it easy.

Heres something I did find out....

Send your self an email to yourphonenumber@tmobile.com and watch how easy it is to spam a block of tmobile numbers. It will cost you .30$ so be careful.

These spammers just set up an automailer sequentially hitting every number. I got around that by going to the webpage for my account and changing the email address. I think it's bs regardless.

I don't seriously have the energy to initiate a class action suit. I just simply am done with them.

So...... Who's the current favorite provider.

Yup they got me too...last few days. There is a website you can visit to block spammers from calling you. Mods sorry if this isnt allowed but its https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

I also found this on the net for text spam....not much help but who knows??

What can I do if I am receiving spam text messages on my cell phone?
Beginning in 2004, the federal CAN-SPAM law made it illegal to send unsolicited commercial text messages. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has compiled a list of websites to which marketers may not send unsolicited e-mail because the messages go to wireless devices. This list was compiled with the help of the cell phone carriers.
If you are receiving unwanted messages, it is important to notify your phone carrier so they can get an idea of the scope of the problem. But remember, text messages from your phone carrier regarding your account are not considered "spam" within the meaning of the law.
You can report unwanted text messages to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC cannot award monetary or other damages and does not settle individual consumer complaints, but it can issue citations or impose fines against those violating the CAN-SPAM Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the National Do-Not-Call Registry, and the FCC's related rules.
You may file a complaint with the FCC by:
E-mail : fccinfo@fcc.gov
Online : www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html
Telephone : Voice (888) CALL-FCC, or (888-225-5322)
TTY (888) TELL-FCC, of (888-835-5322)
Mail :
Federal Communications Commission
Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau
Consumer Inquiries and Complaint Division
445 12th Street, SW
Washington, DC 20554
The FCC asks that you include the following in your complaint:
  • <LI class=text14-black>Your name, address, and daytime telephone number <LI class=text14-black>The telephone number or e-mail address at which you received an unsolicited commercial message or call, or an autodialed call
  • As much specific information about the message as possible, including:
    • <LI class=text14-black>the date and time you received the message <LI class=text14-black>the identity of the company that sent the message to you <LI class=text14-black>the products or services that were promoted in the message
    • the sender's e-mail address and any other e-mail addresses, street addresses or telephone numbers that may be referenced in the message
    • a description of any contact you may have had with the entity that sent the message, including whether you have done business with that entity before receiving the message/call and any steps you may have taken to reject future messages.
Good luck all....this is a real pain.
