Default Suttle Lake Report

Orsturgeon, Like I wrote earlier, I fished Suttle Lake this weekend, and this is what I found. The fish are even more numerous than last year, but they are also slightly smaller. I caught fish in the same manner as I suggested in my earlier report, but I also found that after about 8:00 a.m. we caught more trolling right up and down the middle of the lake, East to West and vise-versa.

I was shuttling my nieces and nephews out to fish 3 at a time and as soon as we had 10 fish, we would go get another load for another trip. We made about 5 trips per day, for 3 days. We only got 1 brown, a little guy that was swimming with the Kokes.

We did get to watch a Brown of about 10 Lbs chase a school of small Kokanee to the surface and eat several. That was a ferocious attack, let me tell you.

For general information:
Keep your gear within 7 feet of the bottom.
Use longer leaders and bigger hooks than come in the Wedding Ring package.
I found that a size 0 Gold plated Mepps blade worked as well as any of the wedding ring blades, in chrome or brass.
Good luck, I look forward to your report.

That is great fishing Snapset!! Thanks for the report. I hope that I can get my kids into some of that action. I am heading up there Saturday for three days. I have one question - when you say "flasher" are you talking about ford fenders, beer cans and willowleafs? I will post a report when I get back. Thanks for the great information. Oh year - what was the weather like??

With regards to your question about flashers, all the ones you mentioned work fine, in chrome or real silver plate.

I have found that Beer cans, etc. outfish dodgers.

The weather was fine, actually pretty hot, but the wind was blowing most of the time. Try wind trolling when it really kicks up, as long as you have decent gunwales on your boat. The waterskiers run in circles around the trollers up there and it can get pretty choppy when you get the same wake arriving from 2 directions at once. If you have a low-sided boat fish early to avoid the wind waves and wakes.
