Default What do you use on your hands to kill scent?

I have heard of allot of different things in this area. I know my dad always said that after he quit smoking he did not hook as many fish, and he was a fish killer. He used to fish with a Tillamook local "Henry 'hank' Smith", those two guys killed allot of fish over the years. I used to cary a plug of "Days Work chewing tobaco" and rub it onto my hands, or light a small fire and pile green alder leaves onto and smoke my hands. Seemed to help, at least I had more bites it seemed when I did that. Just thought this might be an intresting topic to see what all people have used over the years.

I find fresh fish slime seems to work for me. The scent on my hands doesn't seem to bother the fish. Although in the boat I use WD40,don't want any squeaky bait out there.

I have also had success with chewing tobacco on the fingers, even better than rubber gloves! My favorite is Skoal Wintergreen. Leaves a nice stench. I caught mostly catfish in the past using this trick, but it should work very well for most species. But don't put any in your mouth unless you want cancer and a new addiction.

Biodegradable soap about every hour seems to help

I find some of these real interesting. I'm a smoker and don't seem to hook as many fish if I don't wash my jands often. I proved this last year fish for gators. I baited my own hokks for the first half of the day and then had my wife do it the second part of the day. I had twice as many bites. Since then I call her the master baiter. Last year salmon fishing I started washing my hands and plugs regularly. Increased my catch ratio by a whole bunch.

Although I do use scent often, I find that no scent works just as well.

just my 2 cents worth

I use lemon joy or biodegradeable soap for washing my hands when fishing.

If I'm using bait I always use gloves to handle it, and WD 40 is used as a base scent on my lures.

I also scrub my plugs with lemon Joy after I have put a heavy dose of scent on them. Do not let them soak in it for an extended period or it will discolor them. Yes, I have experienced this. oooppps!!

Go to the store and buy yourself a bottle of Anise Extract. No need to buy the pure Anise oil, the extract stuff works great. It proved to have devasting results for me! I'm sold!
