Default Newport Coho

Fished the Rock Pile today and found a pretty consistent bite if not quite as hot as I imagined ...luckiest rod drug a diver and plug cut herring w/chartruse hootchie out 14 pulls ...half we kept where 8lb or better !! Not bad for June !!! give'em a month !!!! Pilar has posted great stuff on fishing Newport ...Saw big chinook ( 35lb) taken at the pile down 90' Bite died way back at noon... So , do we have to go out that far ?? Anyone fished in closer ?? Anyone know how far they go out out of Depoe Bay ??? go get'em ....it's summer and the coho are easy !!!

Wait till you hit a good sized school, Swampy. All your rods will sing at once. Hope you'll have more than one net cause otherwise it's a train wreck.

They were 3 miles out of Depoe Bay in 180 feet, scattered but most boats limited. 15 pulls...herring seemed to beat hoochies.

We fished the rock pile on Sunday. Very , very nasty weather. Seven silvers but only three clipped. They seem smaller this year, short but fat around 4- 5 pounds. Did get one 24 lb nook early that kind of made all that bucking seem worth it. Too rough to mess with bait but the pink hoochie outfished all other colors, a multicolor was second best. Lots of fish there but the bite quit around 10 am. By then the only other boats out in that weather were a half dozen commercials. Man that was a poor weather forecast!
