Default Crabbing and clamming oh my!

Crabbed out at netards today, 12 crabs for 2 hrs. work, they were huge. The very low tide -2.? was great for clams, the clams were in good shape and very meaty. Crabbed at low slak and a little of the incoming tide. All baits were working good, shad, salmon trim, and the standard bottom fish carcass.

Saw a piece on the news this morning that said they had closed clamming in most of pierce county because of bacteria. I still don't know enough about all of that to want to go clamming anywhere when they are having problems somewhere. Does anyone have info on this bacteria? Does proper cooking take care of the bacteria? How long does an area usually remain closed when the close it for bacteria?

I did hear about a woman getting sick from red tide up here in Pierce county. Personally I wouldn't eat any shelf fish from Pierce or Thurston county. The water doesn't get fulshed thru often enough like it does in the north end of the sound.

Went clamming @ Gearhart on Saturday. Good minus tide. There were lots of clams to be had except most were small.
No problem getting limits but we only had several decent size clams.
Based on what we saw, I would wait until this crop grows up!
However, the fruits of our success fried up great and made a delicious Saturday lunch!
