Default Some Lousy No Good Scuzball

made off with my 8 hp Honda...$40.00 lock nonwithstanding...they just punched it and lifted the motor off...getting a new one from the insurance company was not my intention but a new one I will get....god I hate thieves.

I am really considering having my kicker through bolted to the transom and have a spot weld on the threads. Would be a pain the arse if you ever had to take it off, but I think the extra security would be worth it.

Joe

PS Sorry about your kicker, that just sucks.

Just curious - what would you/ could you have done differently that might have prevented the theft?

Might be a good thing for me to do.

Kept boat in garage or in locked storage area...maybe waiting under boat cover with loaded 12 gauge and malice in my heart.

I take mine off the boat and lock it in the garage on a stand. There is nothing in my boat when I am not using it. I do leave some basics in it (life jackets etc...) when the fishing is hot and I use it a lot, but the high $$$ stuff comes off and I put it away everytime.

Sorry about your loss....

My Merc, at 105 lbs, is just small enough to manhandle into the garage. I started doing that after getting a Seaking motor stolen.

Just get yourself a couple acres with about a 36x36 shop. It's worked for me! Seriously though I always bolt my kicker to the boat. I started bolting it to the boat after it almost fell off in rough water on the CR. I don't think the spot weld is necessary as most thieves aren't going to be packing a socket set, and the spot weld can really cause a headache if you need to take it off.

S R R...What type of lock were you using on the kicker?

I use the Quick Silver lock the goes around the threaded shaft of the motor. I can't see any way to get through that, other than maybe messing up the motor so bad that resale would be really tough.

I think I am in the wrong business. I think I may need to look into anti theft devices for marine and sporting goods. Sorry to hear about your loss. We need to go back to the old ways of punishment if you know what I mean.

You need 3 things to keep your boat and equip. safe....
#1 80# junkyard type dog. (keep him hungry)
#2 16' of good chain...(chain him to the axle)
#3 GOOD home owners ins....(beef up the personal injury)

This "burglar alarm" is in no way condoned or approved by ifish!
I have no stock in dogs, chain or insurance companies...I just can't stand a thief!

Ron
:s:: the sound of this alarm may vary with each thief as the dog is only the "sensor" each thief will act as their own alarm!

Good call Fever. The only reason I'm up and on the board this early, is my 3 alarms went off about an hour ago. Just some deer or coyotes, but you never know. I think the anti-theft invention needs another look though.

Ron,

I am with you about the thieves

I thru bolted mine and have the lock thing on there...I guess if they want it bad enough they will get it...

However, beware of the lurking "Louisville Slugger"
