Default Garibaldi Live Report 7/21

Yes, I know it seems crazy to think someone is tuna fishing today...but we're talking about Tuna Time and he knows life is short...play hard!

At 7:15 am he called...9 on 7 landed...the best part is the west number...

More to come...

The ocean forecast looked too lumpy... glad someone got out. I have kid duty all weekend as my wife is off with her friends so no fishing for me anyhow but thinking about it sure is nice!

9:10 am update...20+ fish in the box has yet to make it past the 124:08 line.

Clean green water right up close...first fish came at the 124:06 line!!!

If you did not like the reports before...you're going to hate them now!!

Only fishing 4 rods...doubles and trips...2 rookies in the pit...ocean is not that bad.

The Sea Sports in Depoe should fear the wrath of Garibaldi and the G3's...you're days are numbered. Yes, it is competitive but it sure is nice when the competitive guys go out and find them...especially when they're this close!!

Looking at the cloro shot on Terafin tuna water is close great thanks for making this a long, long weekend now.

I just supplemented my new tuna sickness by ordering a ton of gear over the internet... I have enough gear to sink a battle ship now!

OK - Inquiring minds want to know. What the heck made him start fishing that close? Jumpers? Blue water? Incidental tuna catch while fishing for salmon/bottom fish? FF response? Bait balls?

Because I'm about 100% confident that if I would have gone today, I would have run over those fish.

Looking at the Terafin sea temp and cloro shots that's where you should start trying!

Shane. looking at Coastwatch, there was no clear chloro shot yesterday. And the shot on the 19th looks like this. I, of course, do not have a Terafin subscription and their latest free shot isn't that great.

Birds...Birds...and warm, clean, green water...a rough ocean was enough incentive to start early.

Crazyfish says tuna are being caught right now...4 miles west of Twin Rocks...his buddy Duckworth Dave hooked 4 landed 1 fishing silvers with herring...holy shat bat man!

124*07 to 08 is more like....on the 50 fathom line.

"why did he stop there?"

Kerry, sometimes there is not an explanation you can put into words. I think the explanation is.... because he is a fisherman, and fisherman just do things like that.

Now, Mark... I do understand what you're saying. But one has to assume that the reality here is that there was some rationale - if I had only known, I wouldn't be sitting here right now.

I don't care if we have to weigh peanuts...just let us get out and fish!

But the piggies would be nice...Dick said a couple of fish just ripped off a ton of line and then got off.

Bud,
I know where I am going to try fishing next week. Dick is the man out there.Good for him!
With some luck those fish may still be around next week. Who knows.
Still, it's sure exciting that fish are so close. Something we don't see every day.

The tips are at 123:59...the 124 line is 3/4 of a mile west (close enough for government work).

Fish are between 124:04 and 124:08...from 45:35 to 45:28.

Boy does this change the gas bill...at least until the North winds blow the water back out!

Glad someone pointed out that Dick is driving a battlewagon. That ocean would be too rough for most boats today.

Good on him though, must be nice to pick your days like that.

Jimmy Boy, Haley arrives tomorrow for a week at the beach with us...the big man is excited about tuna at 6 miles...he's never been a fan of the long runs.

My prediction is something big is going to die...the insanity knows no bounds this week!

just got back from my usual weekend drive around town and stopped by the garibaldi marina just about the time they were checking an incidentally caught tuna off of plug cut herring by a salmon fisherman. the boat looked like it was about a 20 footer or so. checked the jetty and the ocean looked a bit on the uncomfortable side but not as bad as the reports were calling for. fish checker said he saw about 3 or 4 of these fish come in that were accidentally caught. sad part is several of the boats didnt have the ice etc for handling the tuna. what do you do then? anyhow, thought i would share what i saw first hand. thanks seelicious for letting us wadders (near shore guys) know that just maybe !!!!

That's it I'm heading down to fish Sunday.

BTW there is a story that my grandfather told me years ago about a school of TUNA that came through the bay all the way up to the red barn marrina on the river. They didn't stay long but they were there. Flukes happen!! Watch for boils in the bay, it could happen with the fish this close.

I can hear it now "we're across the bar let's set lines"

So the plan for next Fri. is to get the pre-set boat limit of Tuna, then make the long run out for Halibut????

How do we convince the game warden that we are indeed targeting Tuna 6 miles out and not coho?

Easy everyone..... I know its tough having cabin fever with less than desirable conditions..... Remember the size of boat you have and the safety & comfort level. There is better weather ahead......

This system coming in tonight and tomorrow is packing the punch of a fall storm so think safety first and maybe tie up some gear or something....
