Default Southern Oregon Tuna Charter

Gentlemen...

I missed out on my trip earlier this week out of Depoe Bay while trying to get some other folks to go along. The boats filled fast. So I have a family reunion in Gold Beach and am needing input for a good Tuna charter and whether conditions are supposed to be halfway decent. I saw someone on another thread tell a guy to reschedule this weekends trip to next weekend heading out of Newport. Does anyone run Tuna our of Port O or should I consider heading a little south across the border in California (yuk...lol). I did find something on the web about Brookings but not much. Please help me out....oh yes, this will be my first Tuna trip.

thanks
Marty

Call Five Star Charters. I don't have the phone number available at hand, but they are listed in the Yellow Pages and they have a website. They are the best in that area (Salmon, Halibut, Bottom Fish and Tuna). Mark Lotus (Owner) has two great boats and the best crew any where, Bar None.

Prowler Charters out of Bandon are a good outfit.

another strong vote for five star, i was just talking to the son yesterday, they had 58 fish, the day before 26, the son is a great guy, haven't talked to the dad much, the dad runs the maxweld, the son runs the regular V hulled boat, not sure on boat names off the top of my head, super nice boats and nice guys who are incredible proffessional.

Tony is one of the best.

Just saw this report posted on the Port of Brookings website.

Quote:
July 19th, 2007 - Right now the Albacore is "red hot". They are only 15 to 25 miles out. Fifty miles out one of the charter boats caught a mahi mahi.

Maybe you should call Sporthaven in Brookings to find out which charter it was?
