I ordered Cabelas Mag Hauler elk cart. Does anyone have any experience with this cart?

I picked up the super mag hauler for a deer/elk/decoy cart a few weeks ago.
I wanted something which could fit in the back of a SUV.
Its bigger than I expected, but I'm keeping it, can't wait to break it in this fall.

I have one of these - have had it about 8-9 years. I've used it to carry out about 6-7 deer and 3 elk. This last year the wheels finally gave out on me but I think thats my fault. I killed an elk the year before and I got it out mostly in one piece so it didn't fit in the back of my 4Runner. So we just hitched the cart to the back on the trailer hitch and drove down the road a couple of miles - not a good idea. Paid like $35 for new wheels from Cabebas and its as good as new, comes in handy you will like it.

We have two super mags on the street here. We have put whole Rosies on them and walked out 3+ miles from behind the local gates. They will be on their fourth season this year.

The carts are great but the bearings cant handle high speeds. The bearing races are just pressed from steel tube and will quickly deform if you pull the cart any faster than walking speed.

I found this out the hard way and then ordered new tubed tires on composite wheels with aluminum hubs and stainless bearings. They can handle high speed and now the cart weighs about half as much as it used to.

If you like this cart with the heavy steel rims and solid rubber tires, you will love it with light composite rims and tubed tires.

This cart works great. Had mine about 8 years now and used it on about 9 bears. This one is my brothers 2006 archery bear. 18.5 P&Y

I've only used it for duck hunting and it has worked perfectly. I can get all the decoys I want to take, plus my layout blind on it. Solidly built.

Yep, in 1996 they passed a law that states game carts are not allowed in Wilderness.
36 CFR 261.50(a) & (b),

Thanks for the reports. I want mine for dual purpose, hunting and walking my two pontoon boats into lakes(National Forest) with my wife. I hope I will be getting good use of it on elk in a little over a month or so.

This is the Ultimate game cart. we use them on our bikes and when the path gets to bumpy we hook them to our packs. We hunt the north coast of Oregon Saddle Mountain Unit Archery. We have Taken out over 30 elk on these carts and 20 deer. I personaly have taken out 7 bulls myself. Each with one trip. i quater the elk tie it in and i'm rollin. I also use them for my duck hunting and Turkey hunting! These Carts are made by Kent Hawkins you can find them and him on www.hawkeyebilt.com . Enjoy!

here's Some YouTube video of the cart in action

Still can't use it in the wilderness.......I wonder if I made a cart out of bent tree limbs and lashed timber if I could use it in the wilderness.

Maybe wood wheels. Then again I like the wilderness rules and do not want to see bikes on the trails but what the hay..
